Weird really, I was thinking about it a few days ago. I am white British, and most people I know are too, I know a Sikh I would consider a friend and a few Hindus pretty well, yet I personally know in real life no Muslims and no Africans or Afro Carribeans, my boss is Polish/Russian ancestry and his son is half Scottish!!!! I chat to the Chinese in the local takeaway too!
Then I thought about it, our customers are mainly white Europeans but a few are Indian owned and AFAIK mainly Hindu, the town I live in has a lot of Indian sub continent people (al three countries) but they keep themselves to themselves, except for the shop keepers (all the ones I know are Hindu), but there are few brown/black people, yet my daughter sits next to a brown/black lad in some lessons, and have been comparing dads (not sure how Senior Programmer Analyst compares to Scientist).
Just think it is a funny state of affairs, seing that there are so many people in our country that I currently don't know any African/Afro Carribeans.
Yes it was brought on by watching Who Do You Think You Are? And find it an absolutely fascinating series.

I have only had one afro-carribean friend (not a very close one at that -- more of a friend of a friend). Anyway --- he had the biggest chip on his shoulder about his colour and tended to scorn whites purely because he thought they would look down on him --- tended to get in first, so to speak.
For all the noise about equality I feel it's a one way street!
Personally I couldn't give a gnat's todger about colour or religion -- a good person is a good person and a prat is a prat, be they white, black, brown or blue with pink spots!!!

That's what I think too, as to other ethnicities - good chance to try the food ;D ;D

strange also that i'd regard the Omega as a very white middle class car :D
never seen any other colour driving a mig but we don't get many in these parts :-/

I have black friends and also many cultured Indian friends but I would not say that they are friends with each other.
Most of my friends are white europeans like myself.
People are much the same the world over in my opinion. :y :y

Thats about my take on it... I like to think i take each and every person i meet on their merits as a person, and nothing to do with their origins or skin colour.

Hmmm. This is a very interesting thread so I think I will share this with you. In a previous life I was like a lot of you until one day I landed a 4 year contract in Zambia [Sub Saharan Africa]. I left the wife sitting a home in the UK and duly trotted of to that vast continent. After a couple of months and a lot of soul searching I met and fell in love with a young Zambian lady.
[now the interesting part] The black Zambian project manager and the white (ex-army) British project manager contrived to remove me from the project. Both insisted it was for my benefit and my removal was not a racist act. That was in 2001, I left my first wife of 28 years and set up home with my young Zambian beauty who is 25 years my junior. We now have 3 wonderful children from our first six years together. In all this time I've noticed her colour every day as she has a bueatiful light brown colour [almost like Caramac, if you remember that] and she radiates.
Trouble is, I'm now having a 'man moment' and can't remember where I was going with this ....... Ah yes! I also live in a street where the inhabitants are diverse. [the point] I was in a neighbours house a year or so ago and there was a disaster out in India or Pakistan being shown on the telly. I said "are you from out there, or are your roots Asian?". His response was "My roots maybe, but I was born & bred in Bradford", to which I replied "Ah, you're English then!". He then looked quizicle towards me and after a few elapsed seconds retorted "Nah, I'm a muslim". We then had a lengthy discussion about nationality and religion, but he confirmed that he was muslim first, Asian second and British third.
Now I am just totally confused, don't give a sh!t and generally try to keep myself to myself and enjoy my family and I am very happy.
Oh, and last Saturday serek a member of this forum who is Polish changed my Cam Cover gaskets, plugs etc etc, what a super bloke with a great sense of humour.
Its still an interesting post. Thanks
:y ;D ;D :y
