Title: Stalling
Post by: Marmo on 15 December 2025, 17:24:24
It's a few years since my Omega (a facelift 3L Elite saloon)was last on the road, however I'm hoping to rectify that early into the new year. When it was in use it would run fine apart from two things. Firstly when the radiator fans(all 3 of them)fired up they wouldn't then turn off until after the ignition was turned off even though the temp gauge shoed normal temperature. Secondly while it would run fine locally take it on a dual carriageway/motorway run and if you needed to brake the engine would cut out as soon as your foot came off the accelerator. When it did this the engine would restart as soon as ignition was turned off and back on again. It wouldn't cut out if you steadily eased off the accelerator only if you removed your foot in one quick move to go for the brake pedal. Any ideas on either of these issues gentlemen? As an aside the aircon/climate doesn't work, but it hasn't since I bought the car 14 years ago and it didn't suffer these problems until it's final year of regular use.

Radiator temp sensor/fan switch failure for the fans.

On the 2.5/3.0... throttle cable adjustment or worn throttle body are possibilities along with a failed idle control valve.

If the car has cruise control, a faulty unit might bind up the throttle movement.

It's almost certainly throttle related.

Thanks for that DG. When you say radiator temp switch I that the one at the side of the sender for the dash temp gauge? My radiator has two fan switches a blue one just below the top hose(this has 3 wires I think)and a brown one more awkwardly placed further down the radiator. Any idea which switch controls what? Yes it does have cruise control(although whether it works I don't know as I've never used it) and I'll look into all your suggestions.

It's the radiator mounted ones.

Change both ;)
