What kind of mileage are you getting on a 3.2 V6 around town. I get 17.5 mpg as shown on the display or 6.2km per litre.
Is this reasonable? What do others get?
-
When I used to run on petrol ( :) ) that was about right for stop/start town work or when towing. Mid 20's on a reasonable A road run; low 30's on a "gentle" motorway cruise ...

ahhh - you don't mean "gas" the way i thought!!
that seems low for 3.2? i'm no saint and i average 25+ on short blasts to and from work in 3.0 - but i cant see 3.2 being that much worse?
-
On mine i would get about 23 mpg around town with a light foot... and on a gentle motorway run about 33-34 mpg.

About 18 to 19 around town, got up to 29mpg on the trip to Yorkshire and back

I have always felt that 17.5 mpg is a bit low, considering I do get up to speeds of 50mph here. I'm sure my calculations are correct from 6.2 km per litre equates to 17.5 mpg.
Fuel is cheap here but maybe something else might be wrong :-/

How cheap is the fuel? (Go on make us cry a little)

Problem is, there's "around town" (rural areas), "around town" (home counties), "around town" (suberbs), and "around town" (central London). In addition, drving style makes a huge difference when a lot of acceleration and braking are involved.
I would say for it to drop to 17.5 I would need to be in one of the latter categories of "around town".
If you suspect a problem make a test that's more repeatable. Set the cruise to 60MPH on a level road and measure it with the MID over a reasonable distance. I would expect my MID to indicate 35MPG or more under such conditions assuming I can maintain a steady cruise and don't have to accelerate and brake.

On my ex-plod 3.2 estate.About 19 in town and maybe 25-27 on a run. :y
-
Sorry forgot to mention 17.5mpg is with the air con going at full blast. Don't know much much of a difference that makes.

Well it is certainly a shocker for us when we come back to the UK. Put 20 quid in and the guage is still below half :o :o
here it is about 12p a litre for super. But water costs more ;D

I put 20 quid's worth in the other day after the yellow light came on (only need it for warming up) and the needle barely moved off the bottom stop. :o

sounds to me like you're filling the boot instead of the tank!! ;D

And your worried about gas mileage :-)
At those prices I'll be seeing how low it will go...
-
12p :o
I would drive a V8 and never worried about the consumption.. ;D
-
sorry I meant petrol as opposed to LPG.
I just checked the wifes Honda CRV 2.4 and that gives 17 litres per 100km which is 5.91 km per litre which seems worse than mine. :-/

Yes but if the fuel consumption is quite bad then filling up becomes an inconvience. :-?

at 12 pence a litre that's something I'd be prepared to put up with! ;D
£70 for a tank in the UK is an inconvenience. ;) :y
-
this may seem like a dumb question, but you aren't on US gallons setting are you? (they're smaller gallons you see) :y
just a thought - it'd be good if it was that simple ;)
-
at 12p a litre - i'd be scouring autotrader for a nice V12 XJS ;)

No, the fuel is sold in litres, I did the conversion to UK gallons for comparison purposes. But I see your point :y
-
If I was paying 12p a litre I'd wear my engine out in a few months because I would be driving all over the place. It's 108p a litre round here. :'(
