Title: Doctors and waiting times
Post by: Mr Skrunts on 30 January 2026, 16:22:15
Normally it seems to take about 3 weeks to get an appointment with our Doctors

Depending on the type of appointments some are quicker and some take longer like a med's review or booked weeks in advance for a check up.

I have Developed a rash around my middle abovemy belly button and has become itchy, rang doctors triage and been told a doctor will ring me within 30 mins (Not a nurse)  Not concerned about it but just thought I would get advice before the weekend.

Wonder whats up with me  :-\

Have you been cavorting with the kind of ladies you wouldn't have introduced to your mother?  ???  >:D

Scabies?  I had that once. Itchy as hell it was!  :o  :(

I think I got it after staying in a hotel in Mombasa where if they had changed the sheets, they'd been briefly rinsed in cold water which wasn't enough to kill the mites.  :-\

As a breakless youth the address and phone number of the 'clap clinic' was well known to myself and my mates of that time. :-X >:D

Since our new medical centre was built here, consolidating all the doctors surgeries (except one), it's impossible to get an appointment. Ever.  Standard answer seems to be use a pharmacy or A&E. Our A&E's are complete arses to get to, being either Oxford or Banbury, neither are compatible with driving to.

Been on meds since for Vertigo Steve, must be a side effect from giving up alcohol,  funny thing is I could drink about 8 - 9 pints & not have any effects at all, yet since giving up I'm having dizzy spells 😂

I told you to start eating and drinking normally again. You can do untold damage by giving up booze and curries. It's a proven scientific fact.....honest  ;D

Certainly cannot drink alcohol at present due to the meds I'm on ( Prochloperazine )  they appear to be working they also prescribe these to Schizophrenics  so just hoping no one cuts me up in the Range Rover, because  there's no telling where it could lead.. 😂 Funny enough out for a curry tonight looking forward to it.

You have to be a bit careful driving on it too apparently.

Did that happen after a viral infection, such as a sniffle?

I'd never really heard of it until Mrs TB got it, then it turns out its really common!

Can't get hold of a quack for love or money.

And, months after you ask for an appointment you end up with a doctor who is hard (almost impossible) to understand. ::)

I tend to pay privately if terminally sick with man flu, or pox. :-X

One of my neighbours I was talking to yesterday has got it as well his started with a ear infection & sniffles so could possibly start from a viral infection, mine started Christmas eve probably because of my sugar  levels going  out of sync as I'm Type 2 Diabetic,so apparently that can start it off as well, I'd given it a month and I had improved slightly but saw my GP & she prescribed the tablets which have been brilliant I've suffered no side effects thankfully I think you can even buy them over the counter.

Since my health challenge of 2023 I have had no issue in getting a face to face appointment, of which I have had quite a few :D :D ;)

My local Surgery is a shambles. Whoever the Manager is, they need shooting.
I got a face to face when the brain aneurysm became an issue, but since then they seem like headless chickens, and I make sur I keep notes about everything because they cant be relied on.

Glad its under control, as I know the missus struggles with it sometimes.

As I understand it, its something that never really goes away, and the simplest thing can set it off.  Snow tends to set hers off, and also that new trendy TV filming where they have to spin around the subject....

.

In fact I think it started last summer but I didn't take any notice of it, it happened when I bent forward to wind the jockey wheel up on our caravan and that was it until this latest episode,  the worst part for me has been the awful nausea feeling when waking up first thing in the morning, hopefully now I will be able to keep it under control.

Not everyone has the luxury of not working, and some people choose to because they're rubbish at golf.

I gave up golf in 2013 when I "lost" all my bats.

In fairness to golf, it was one of those things that got me out doing walking. Lots of walking, given my golfing abilities!

I have a nasty habit of smacking my internal door handles into my stomach / belly button area in passing.
Done it a few times over the years. Normally just squeal like a girl for a few seconds then get on with it.
A few weeks ago, I did it again but this time I must of done some damage because a couple of days later, one side of my abdomen literally started to fill up with fluid under the skin like a water balloon.
That was the Friday and I had to drive to pick up my new (to me) car on the Saturday so Sunday morning i'm on the phone to 111.
To be fair, they wasn't too bad after answering a thousand questions, they booked me into a UTC (Urgent Treatment Centre) for the next day.
Got diagnosed as a abscess and was given a course of antibiotics which did sweet F all.
Back on the phone to my GP this time and was told that because i'm not in pain or have bowel symptoms, its a 1 to 3 weeks wait at least.
Politely explained that something is not right and needs sorting sharpish before I end up in casualty.  She cut me off  >:(
So 111 it is .........  This time I got sent to another UTC where I was actually seen by a actual doctor I think. Couldn't really understand much of what she said  :-X
Anyway we sort of agreed that I need a ultrasound to find out what's happening in there so she wrote a letter to my GP and off I went.
That was a Saturday night so Monday morning, I calls the GP's surgery to be told to sit by my phone.
Well I sat by my phone for nearly 3 days and then rang back to be told its still not urgent  >:(
Back to 111 I go and i'm sent to another UTC and told to sit down and they will try to fit me in for a ultrasound.
After 3 hours i'm sent home because i'm still marked down as non urgent and told to ring my GP.
Range them and told them to stick there service where the sun doesn't shine.
Just joined a husband and wife team near me who have got a great reputation.
Just waiting for the changeover then i'll burden myself on there doorstep and try and get some answers.
Sicknote ran out and i've got no doctor at the moment so went back to work yesterday on light duties.

NHS is a friggin joke

Was tempted tbh
WAs literally told that by a nurse (customer) yesterday.
Gonna meet my new doctor this week hopefully.
See if I get better service.

It only employs 2 million people and we only spend around £210 billion a year on it, so you shouldnt expect too much from it.  ::)

A friend’s  sister works in the nhs in Leicester. She told me about some breathtaking cock ups to transfer and open up new units only to cancel them at the 11th hour despite spending loads.

What a precious thing universal healthcare is. Those of us with poor health benefit financially. Those of us with good health  help those without. Other European countries manage similar health systems so it isn’t rocket science. Denmark has cancer treatment within something like six weeks from diagnosis.
