Title: Newbie, cannot post on Sale/Wanted
Post by: Andyswad on 21 September 2008, 18:45:40
OK so I need to have 250 posts before i can post on Sale/Wanted, Why?

I've been a member for nearly a year, A lot of the questions and information I need has already been posted, so if I look properly I do not need to make loads of repeat posts about questions already answered, I have not got the experience to offer much advise or answer any other members technical questions, so I tend to log on, read, and learn but not to write very much.

I now have a few parts that I wish to get rid of that may be useful to other members, some even to give away not sell but I cannot list them. If I wanted to make more money I would auction them on eBay but no, I wish to offer them to forum members first if they can make use of them, surely that's what good forum members do, help each other out, but I'm not allowed, Why.

If I post meaningless drivel about rubbish or loads about things not Omega related and reach 250 posts then I'm allowed, also if I was new to the forum and wanted parts why could I not ask for them.

All I wish to do is offer fellow forum members cheap or free parts without having to put them on eBay where members will have to bid against each other, or throw them away when other members may be after the parts, surely i should be able to do that, I'm not in it for the money or a trader and will not flood the site with endless parts but if I did the moderators should pick up on it so why the rule?

I may not post a lot but why not change the rules to 250 posts OR member for 6 months or a year?

This is already a known issue, which the running team are aware of :y

PM an admin with your situation, I'm sure they will help with a polite genuine request :y

The reason the post limit was raised to 250 was because one or two sellers (some members for longer than you) decided to short change buyers and simply take the money and run and not deliver the goods.   :(

Not implying for one instant that you would do the same but - and its a big but thats still contentious - thats where the bar has been set and, for the forseable future, it will remain.

As James said, if you post up what you have in the test section then it may well be moved - but thats at the discretion of any one of the admin team who are on at any given time.

Thanks for your understanding...   :y

Hi Andy. I thought it was 50 posts, shows how out of touch i am. Obviously you understand such rules are in place to stop folk joining just to sell a car/part & beggaring off again which seems clear to me is not your intention, you genuinely want to help so i understand your frustration. In your case i'd make an exception if it was up to me but it isn't (top member that i am!!!!) I do take your point but please don't condemn those of us who enjoy a little banter (or drivel) as you so poetically put it. We all love our Migs, but there's room for a giggle as well. Would be a little clinical if we only talked Migs. Some of our members are less able bodied & we are company for eachother.
No offence meant & i imagine an admin will help you.
           Regards, Guy. :y

Thanks Guy, no offence taken or meant to any members, I talk all my drivel and general ramblings on several motorbike forums and leave this site generally free of my rantings and outlook on life......but that could change ::)

Can see your point Andy. You want to give away free bits and you are being stopped by the regulations. It sounds crazy and up to a point it is..... but as explained earlier in this thread there are reasons why it is this way.
250 posts are possible in very quick order ,and don't worry if you post crap.........as we all do from time to time.
Best to stick with it for now as this is a pretty good forum on the whole :y :y

Even some of the admins aren't above posting or engaging in a little banter from time to time. Friends have joined other car forums & given up due to a lack of anything really. I've also joined a Cortina forum (my 2nd car) & it's pretty good but not as busy as here & i think it's because within reason we're all pretty easy going & friendly most of the time which makes us the biggest & busiest Car Forum i've seen. So welcome some newbies (we all were once) answer a few comments etc.
We'll soon be able to benefit from your kind offers as you intended.
         Happy posting, Guy. :y :D
