Title: I just fixed my scanner
Post by: Taxi_Driver on 10 December 2006, 18:05:40
With help from this site www.fixmyownprinter.com  :y

Its a HP Officejet G55......printer and scanner/copier all in one.

Ok its a few years old but its been excellent and was about to bin it and go buy another.....when i thought about an hour ago I'd see if it could be fixed.

Problem was with it, when you did a preview scan, it did this but when the scanner light returned to its start position.....it didnt stop and you got a grind noise as the belt was jumping over the cogs.....then it said scanner failure on the display....power cycle required.  :(

Found the site mentioned above and after 10 mins of wading through threads.....found out how to remove the glass panel on the top.  :) ......there was one suggestion of cleaning the white bar on the underneath side of the glass....which i did but didnt do anything for it  :(
Then found another thread on the same prob suggesting cleaning a positioning disk on the end of the motor spindle (I assume it counts the revolutions of the motor) . Did this and it did the trick  :y

Scanner now working again fine  :y

So If anyone else gets printer/scanner probs, before binning it and buying another, I suggest you visit
www.fixmyownprinter.com , it could save you some dosh, to spend on your Omega   :D

I disagree. There is a certain satisfaction in educating computer bits with Sammy Sledge (or Percy Pick)...

...which reminds me, i need to educate a media center and a couple of ondigital boxes...
