Bit of a story but bear with me.
Bought the Elite 18 months ago with the crack of doom attached, and took it to the Vx main dealer garage, who the old boy before me had been having it serviced since new.
They gave me a quote of around £175, including parts welding painting etc. I walked away thinking one day I'll do the darn thing myself.
Since that day I have since found you guys albeit at the other place, and the fix for the crack of doom.
Well about 4 weeks ago I thought right I'll get the bits and fix it. So went to main dealer to get parts, guess what non stock item (well I am in the wilds of the north). Took 3 weeks to get 2 screws, 2 plates, and 1 bush. Went to sort it this morning and started to strip it down.
Guess what .......... there was no rather plastic bush in the existing mechanism.
So inserted plastic bush greased up and put back together, with no crack of doom.
Yippee!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cost .......... 1 plastic bush, a wee bit of grease, and 10 minutes of my time.
The look on my face after waiting 18 months to do it........ priceless.

well done!!!!

I think the boss will have spent any left over by the time she comes back.

It'll be back id bet...Calibra's suffer the same crack...i replaced the whole check arm mech', bush, bolt and nut, and it went silent...and it's just starting again now.

Gotchya!
none of mine have a problem with the door straps.
Fingers crossed.

They tend to last for 5 years plus....I change them fairly regularly as they are dead cheap.

you have shops up there!>>! ;D
only reason i say that is i have just had my parents stay for 10 days from "further north than you" because "they dont have M&S or Tesco" ;D
Heres me thinking it would save me cash to move further north..oh well ;)

My drivers door doesnt have the crack of doom yet.....it has the clunk of doom..and its just over 3yo.
Must be all the opening of the door it gets.
I must have a go at sorting it before it turns in to the crack of doom.....hopefully it might only need a new plastic bush.

I'm guessing this is more of a "crack" of doom rather than a visible crack?

Sure is!
If one of your doors has the said "crack", you will sure know about it, and so will everyone else every time you enter / exit the car. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
I just can't believe that I left it 18 months before looking at it.
Well you live and learn. :-[

I'm aware of said "crack" ;D
Mine has but a mere "click" at the moment 8-)

After me saying that mine doesn't do it, it's started.
Today you'll find me mostly in the 'how to' section!! ::)

I got most of my bits yesterday whilst at Vx.
The dealer did indeed try to say that the repair plate was an invalid number, as stated in the How2.
Having told him that i knew he would utter such a sentence, he checked with Vx, and low and behold, the cry was 'Vauxhall recognise it'
Four plates on order. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
Was gonna try changing the bushes first though to see if it makes any difference, whilst i'm waiting on the plates coming.

The bushes will more than likely fix it....
