Title: A free monitor!
Post by: Marks DTM Calib on 26 September 2008, 17:56:58
Just managed to get a free monitor from work that was being scrapped, trouble is I am struggling to find somewhere to put it  :-[

I got an Optiplex 745 the same way a few weeks ago.  :y

I think just the fans in my now swapped out XPS used more juice than the whole new (old) PC. It's saving me Watts, pounds and Carbons...  :) :)

The only place I can think to put it is the garage.....perhaps with a TV tuner  :y

If it had a tuner, I'd borrow for a couple of weeks, as Samsung are having a bit of trouble with my telly, and the loan set is only 32".  Plus it has a real gay bluey/greeny/turquoise LED strip at bottom ;D

You just use a freeview box with it as it has composite, VGA RGB etc inputs.

Is the LED strip not a mood light that can be turned off?

I did think that, and there was a mood setting in Picture settings, but I turned that off, and still have gaybar on.

I've sort of ignored it, as mine should have been fixed by now, but there is some issue thats taking longer and everyone seems to be unwilling to say what.  All I can find out is its the panel thats failed. Again.

if this plasma can be connected to a PC add a TV card and you can also watch TV at the same time when you are using the net..

Media Center (MCE or VMC) much easier. Plus, you can use it without tuners by installing a free add-on that collates all the iPlayer/Catch-up reruns from the internet.  Not sure these can be downloaded outside of UK though.

No, BBC iplayer is shite for that as it wont let me download any at work because the gateway is in Sweden!

LOL, wouldn't be much cop at your home either, with your less than perfect ISP.

Saying that, even though MCE is about the best upscaler you can get, you can see the lack of quality on the streamed stuff.  I'll have to demo it again to you one day, now its got a video card that can drive your 1920 x 1080 TV ;D

If you are really struggling I have loads of wallspace in the Mausoleum. Im sure my antenna array could spare a mV or too for a freeview box.

Bugger me, I sorted it - it was that setting, but it dims it slowly when you turn off, so after a few secs, I assumed it hadn't done anything before.

Try me!

just having problems with my Mac VPN due to the lack of a routing table. My office runs domains on .2 so my office PC is 192.168.2.xxx

.1 is external to the office (rackspace machines)

because my home network runs a .1, i am having issues connecting to my work pc, no problem with the rackspace boxes, i am setting up a routing table which forces .2 to go through the VPN Ethernet, rather than my standard router connection.

Just because you gateway is in Sweden, does not mean you have to live without BBC iPlayer...

Trust me, and I know a little bit about MDTM's work network, it won't work.

Additionally, in your case, I'd adjust home network, so you don't have to bugger around with extra overheads with extra VPNs
