There were 90 odd democrats voted against it, nearly half their presence in the house.

We seem to have two threads on the same theme, so I simply will post what I have already on the other one! ;D ;D 8-)

This can only greatly knock confidence in the financial markets still further and bring the necessary movement of money to a snails pace! :'(

I do not want to sound all doom and gloom, which is hard not to now, but this could be an inevitable fiscal disaster of the magnitude of the 1929 Wall Street Crash which took until 1954 to be fully recovered from! :o :o

These are interesting times!  But most of us are just pawns now in a fantastic game of power politics and financial (mismanagement) games! >:(

Like the Titanic there now seems little chance in stopping us from sinking, as we have already hit the ice burg! :'( :'(

Oh well, up with the Revolution!!!  Whats that song"always look on the bright side of life, tdum tdum, t'dum.......!! ;D ;D 8-)

Some of us can see through the games. Barney said after the vote "Lets see how the markets react before we vote again". In other words, if they aint that bothered, let's see where it goes before we act.

Granted, the situation looks dire --- but the recovery from the 29 crash would have been somewhat hampered by the war. Hopefully ( but not totally impossible ) there won't be that complication this time. So we might only (!) be looking at a decade to recover ( much the same as the late 80's blip! )

I take your point HC, but the USA didn't come into the war until 1941, 12 years after the Wall St. Crash, and then the USA economy actually gained significantly from the war years by tremondous manufacturing investment / profit, indeed as some would suggest at the expense of Great Britain / Europe. ;)

I still take your point though for GB and Europe the war did get in the way of the recovery! :y :y

For some perspective, the biggest one day hit during the Wall Street crash was 22.6%.

Well it looks like the final trades have gone through. -777.70. Or 6.98%

Apparently a one day points record, but the guy on the Beeb said there have been 20%+ drops before now.

Hopefully Asia won't panic. Or, as bannjax said, we will be Bombay-Ducked

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't the Democrats have a majority in the House of Representatives??

This wouldn't be an anti Bush political game by any chance would it?? Maybe a last effort to discredit the lame duck president who promised that they would strike a deal??
