I'm gonna start using 99 again ;D

Been using shell optimax for a while now. I thought I had more power but told myself I was imagining it. I should listen to myself more often :y
-
I am going to go the extra mile now to Tescos garage :y
-
I run BP Ultimate for a treat - or when dragging my caravan and do notice gains in power and torque but i'll try Tesco if it's good enough for a CSL. Will the higher burn not damage valve seats - don't know what that means but my dad always mentions it with high octane fuels. :-/
-
I didn't notice any difference when using it in my V6 - but i DID notice a BIG drop in MPG compared to usual 95 ron.
-
Yeah BP Utimate now and again, closer than tescos, but long term damage ?
-
Very unlikely to damage the valves and seats....the head cooling on the V6 is pretty good and modern valve seats are as hard as nails.
I suspect the 2.5 and 3.0 V6 will like the high octane fuel as they are pretty high compression....so could run more spark advance before pinking occurs. Note that it is likely to take time for the ECU to adjust the spark map.

I've been using this all the time for last few months - definitely seems to perform better than on the cheaper supermarket fuels. Very slight improvement on fuel economy too, but only a couple of mpg.

Perhaps you have a similar problem to me, a heavy right foot :y always hitting the go pedal ;D
-
I don't go below 97RON I think the car could easily have a higher CR to cope
-
Always used to run the Volvo on optimax, only started putting it the Meega recently.
-
It certainly makes a difference to mine. Car is more responsive on Opti or Vmax etc.

It made a difference with the volvo as well. I intend to keep putting it in now I've started
-
Also tried it in the wifes 1.4 206. No difference to speak of.
The FJ1200 likes it though, for some reason!

i think you need an engine that develops some power to be able to notice the difference ;)
-
Yup, agreed. Who is going to hit 500 first - thee or me? ;)
-
Think you may just make it ;) could always try and manufacture a tie :y
-
Nah... That would be cheatin'.
OOOOPPSS... sorry, burst the 500 bracket ;)
-
I sometimes put Optimax in my 1.4 8v....Car wasn't much quicker, but a lot more torquey and the engine ran as smooth as an 8v can!! haha :D

Been using BP Ultimate for the last year so.
What BT Ultimate and Shell V-Power (Optimax) claim is that the fuel contains detergents that help keep the fuel system and valves clean – as do additives such as Forte, STP, and Redex – and I am much more interested in this side of things, but I am not sure if Tesco also add detergents to the 99 fuel – does anyone know or seen them claim this anywhere?

Chopsmam recons our Tesco has 97 not 99 but she fills hers up with 95. My first question was Eh? Wot is she doing noticing RON ratings & secondly could she be right?

I think the answer is that most Tesco petrol stations have both 95 and 97, but few have also the 99.
Incidentally, the local Tesco's around here have Esso petrol stations, noy Tesco, and they only have 95, not even 97... So I buy BT Ultimate instead. At least I get Nectar points... :)

I tried the BP Ultimate for a few tankfulls & did notice a very slight difference in performance, but not sure it's worth the extra...

According to the data sheet shell V power is 99 ron I think optimax was 98 ron
