Title: MOT Urgent Help Needed!
Post by: Kate on 30 September 2008, 13:46:57
Took the mig I bought off Guy in for it's MOT this morning and it passed no problem, not needing any work.

Just noted that the mileage on the test certificate reads 112363.

The mileage on the mig when tested was 102363.

What should I do?  Does it matter or not?

Should I go back and get them to correct the error?  I read the mileage out to the tester but the girl typing it in obviously mis-heard.

Thanks for any advice? :y

Same here, get it corrected.
Who knows you may want to sell it and that will stick out like a sore thumb, and better to have less mileage showing which is correct.

Thanks for the advice.  :y

I took your advice and got it changed to the correct mileage.

Yes you're right it could have been a problem so it was best to get it sorted.

I don't do lots of miles so when I took it for it's next test it would have a lots less miles on it then the last MOT said.  So it would have looked liked I'd clocked it so I'm pleased I got it sorted.

Thanks! :y

Well the test fee is £30 where I go and they do have a bribe box.

No I'm not joking it is a pint glass and they call it 'tips'.

I only 'tip' £5-£10 though.  This is Sunderland you know!

By the way Mike have you been down Houghton cut lately?

They are doing roadworks and have put the speed limit down to 30!  (it's a dual carriageway)

Now a speed camera van hides at the bottom.

I was doing 34 today do you think I will get a ticket?

Not been up there since Christmas day, don't seem to vist swmbo family very often, no particular reason.
34, you might just get away with it, 10% plus your speedo will read low at that speed, I think. :)

My MOT tester is really strict and sometimes cars end up going straight to the scrapyard after he has tested them.

I found out yesterday that the tips are for his casino/beer money! :D

So can no-one beat £30?

No retest fee either and initial test is only £10 if it fails.

The rule used to be 10% + 2 MPH, i.e. you had to be doing 35 to get a ticket, nowadays though in the interest of revenue raising I am not sure what discretion is applied, if any, it is so easy to rely on computer generated tickets. Totally off topic, in early September I drove from Dover to Durham, 353 miles, and did not see a single police vehicle of any description, not one, anywhere. Are they relying too much on cameras, not a single marked car to deter dangerous drivers who tailgate, stay in lane 2 for 30 miles, don't use their lights in rain / fog etc. I for one would prefer a visible police presence rather than constantly looking for cameras. What do other members think ?

Yes I would rather have the police than those irritating cameras anyday.  At least you can chat up the police! ;D
