wish i could give you advice - but you'll be getting loads of that - i can wish you luck and hope everything turns out OK :y

Thank you to you both.
It's really crap, no one can say how it feels, you have to experience it,
I know many have before & most certainly many will again.
It knocks your duck off & you feel sh!t (to put it mildly)
-
Sorry to hear your bad news.
But try to keep optimistic things often work out for the best in the end. :y

Bad luck
If you need any help or guides on CV writing I have one or two that might be of use from my recent experience with similar happenings.
-
experienced a similiar situation two times..feels bad..but these days will pass..
all the best..

I was made redundant last Friday and offered a job today so things do get better just keep an eye out on job sites (totaljobs, monster, jobsite etc)
they crop up and every so often surprise you ;)
-
Sorry to hear that Pete.
Happened to me 3 times, 18 months ago was the most recent when the plant closed. I was managing 15 scientists and engineers at the time and making those people redundant was rather awful for me. Such a waste.
However, they all did at least as well, most of them did better. Their survival happened because not one of them arsed about. As soon as we were told we were in consultancy, they were on the phone and internet. CVs were honed, a lot of them by peer review. No chance was wasted.
Don't muck about Pete. Waste no effort in finding the next opportunity. If you want help with your CV, Mark has already offered and I will add my offer to his.
Best of luck.
Jim

Sorry to hear about your situation, not easy I know. I fear you wont be the last.
I have a job for you....money aint brill but enough, 6 weeks of holiday/year at least, and a 6 month activity holiday in a hot country every 2 years, yet fantastic job security....... ::) ;) :D ;D
(sorry if it aint your humour, just trying to make you laugh) :y
-
Really sorry to hear that mate. Hope something turns up before too long. Good luck.
-
sorry to hear your news m8, last yr i did roughly about 6 weeks work, and the yr before that not much more, made it up in the odd private job but it was a real struggle. im luckily enough to live on my own so wasnt so bad. hope you get sorted quick. ;)
-
Very sorry to learn of this and I am sure you will not be the last! :'( :'( :'(
Are you entitled to any enhanced reduncancy package from the company concerned? :-? :-?
If you only have the minimal dictated by the law being offered, I am doubly sorry for you! :'( :'( :'(
I was lucky when I volunteered for redundancy after 28 years service and walked away with a lovely enhanced package, but unfortunately I think those days are well and truely over unless you are in senior corporate management, especially with the banks! >:( >:(
-
sorry to hear that matey ! :( :( something will come up fella allways does in times of need ! :y

Same thing happened to me on 6th September, the day I came back from holiday, it was a little awkward as it was my brother making me redundant. It got worse when Her Indoors started buying wallpaper and paint " to keep me busy ". There are jobs out there but up here approx 100 people chase every job.
-
Good luck looking for another job
-
Yes, good luck. :y
-
Really sorry to hear about your bad luck. In my experience you've got to be positive and keep looking for another job as hard as you can.
You will definitely find something soon! :y
-
Been there myself - you must keep to your normal schedule and not lie in bed all day. Remember your new "job" is to find another job!! Use the internet, networking, job centres etc. Certain papers target certain job sectors - don't buy all the papers - use the free ones at the library! Finally don't put "unemployed" or leave a time gap on your CV - you can always be a "consultant". Good Luck :y
-
I can't stay in bed anyway, i have to be up doing something.
Yes tomorrow i'm of to the register with a few agencies & a visit to the job center.
What would be nice would to walk into another job, start next mon & get the redundency pay too. It would feel good to have some of the rich arses money that i used to work for (all £90,000,000 of it)
Thank you again to all :y :y
-
What do you do, you dont have to answer that if you do not want to, just being nosey ::) ::) ::)

The simple answer to that is "what haven't i done" ;)

Historically I resemble that comment, settled now though, for the moment. ;D

sorry to hear it pete, im in the same boat since being made redundant from an RAF base a while ago, & as my job is somewhat unusual its difficult for me, the secret is to put your name about everywhere & keep yourself occupied with something, believe me daytime telly will drive you cuckoo otherwise ;)

Day time TV= NOOOOOOOOO. I hate it.
Mike, my job was/is hard to explain. I basically controlled & monitered the scrap waste we used to produce. I'd been there six years & new my job backwards & i had a very good rapport with many managers, supervizers & directors. I leave behind alot of mates (good mates too).
-
Each day is different mate you never know how a day will end so try and keep your chin up and good luck.....Got a feelin i mite be in the same boat soon just gotta wait no point worrying till then.

I must re-iterate the importance of the CV, it must be spot on and tailored for every job ap as these days, they are filtered by agencies and HR !

Although most of the free samples on google search not satisfactory
here are some worth checking..
http://www.how-to-write-a-resume.org/resume_writing_examples.htm
and including a small digital picture on the upper right corner is not a
bad idea I think (mine is like this)
-
I got made redundant 3 months ago - still looking. Big problem is that I'm 62, and age discrimination legislation or not, nobody wants to talk to me. And the other problem is that when out started out in IT, you didn't need a degree. You do now.
If I put my 40 years experience on the CV, they can see how old I must be, so it has to be slimmed down, but it isn't easy.
So, as they have all said - sit in front of your computer, apply to anything you think you can get and, most important, chase up every on-line application with a telephone call. Spoke to an agent yesterday who still had 30 CVs to go through from an ad he placed last Thursday - my CV has now gone to the top of the pile. :)
(But hasn't actually called me back yet... :( )
