Title: Scary Ebay story
Post by: eddie on 08 October 2008, 20:07:28
My son who drives a Focus 1,6 recently had problems and put his car into a garage local to his workplace. They diagnosed and replaced a faulty coil pack (coincidence or what?).
On returning to work with his fixed car, a work colleague asked what he had done with the old coil pack. When he was told it had been 'skipped' he complained bitterly and said he could have sold it on Ebay as ' untested '!

The same guy rips bits out of cars and computers for sale on Ebay.

Be carefull what you buy.

There are some cowboys out there. Ebay dont give a toss as long as they get their listing fees.

Judging by my recent experiences with ebay customer services.., I quite agree.  It seems like trying to be a responsible and honest seller gives u a distinct disadvantage., and ebay rules just seem to help the iffy sellers/buyers along.

I find the mere thought of using E-Bay scary in itself, and reports like this just confirm that I am doing the right thing by not using it! ::) ::) ::)

I know people find it good, but let's face it the risks of getting ripped off are much higher than using a reputable outlet! ;)

Just my opinion of course! :D ;)

Yup totally agree only had the odd dodgy deal but the flack I got from the guy for giving him bad feedback was very bad, anything I buy pretty much now I collect it in person paying cash on the doorstep as you can have a look at what its really like...Too many bent tinkers into ebay now :y and  to repeat what SWMNBO said the customer service sucks as does paypal .... see link

I do a bit of buying and selling on ebay and so far no problems, I have a rule, don't buy anything that you can not afford to loose the money, my deals are only small amounts usually. :)

Bought a ‘Pit Bike’ 3 years ago, new from China (Honda Copy) paid £170 had to build it up myself. Been well used and lado sold it today for £95.oo result as far as I am concerned.

I bought a DIS pack for the Mig, worked fine, there are deals to be had, just think before you buy, if in doubt then don’t buy.

I have done quite a bit of buying/selling on eBay without any real problems but if you do as Mike suggests you shouldn't get your finger's burnt :).

Sad thing is its the unwary that get caught--keep a good eye on the sellers stats, read the blurb carefully and/or stick to ebay shops.

Just ordered my coil pack there.

Ive had plenty of bargains off ebay. Had to get my money back a couple of times though off paypal because of non delivery. Unfortunately the dick heads spoil it for every body.

Ebay can be good if you research your seller and use a bit of common sense with your purchases.  But like everything in life, a few can ruin it for the rest.

I sent one guy an email about an Omega he was selling that had no reg plates on the car.  I asked could he tell me the reg so that I could do a data check and he said no, but I could do the check AFTER I bought the car!  Yeah right.

I've been conned a couple of times on Ebay now.

First guy sent me the wrong CPU and then didn't bother returning my emails. It did work though so it wasn't all bad, just paid £15 more than I should have for it.

Second one was a guy who advertised a PS2 game touted as brand new and sealed which I bought for £13, when it turned up it was scratched to opps and not working in the slightest. The "new seal" turned out to be a plastic bag.

I complained to Paypal and their procedures were just astounding. Requesting I seek an independent expert's opinion on the state of the item and obtain a report of the defects. For the sum of money involved it was a waste of time.

If you're selling things on Ebay I would recommend not accepting cheques either, or at the very least have it delivered to a work address. My other half sold something recently and accepted a cheque as payment and had it sent to our house instead of my office. She forgot to post the item and received an intimidating email a week later suggesting the buyer's boyfriend was going to come round and collect in person. Not very nice thought!

so true, i bid for an item that was 6.00 postage cost, after the bid it went up to 30 for postage, i refused to pay, complained and got banned. not that i give a break to be honest.
