just heard on the news that the M.O.D. has lost (another) hard drive containing the names, addresses, passport numbers and possibly bank details of 100,000 servicemen and their families.
ffs, what is wrong with these people. we are fighting 2 wars presently and send service personnel abroad to sacrifice life and limb, not to mention the disruption to normal life and removal of so many freedoms to keep the country secure, and yet this kind of thing happens with monotonous regularity.

It was EDS a contrctor of the MOD..... still unforgivable >:(

whoever was responsible for giving them the contract should face a firing squad. >:(
Also, should things as important as this be given out to subbies ? :-/

Do you mean subalterns or sub contractors?
As managers of people my subbies have just been briefed on the changes to the law in respect of the security of personal data, you can now be found guilty of a crime in respect to this!
And contractors run many aspects of the MOD now, including data management. How well they do it........ :-X :-X :-X :-X

I wonder how serious it realy is?
As always the press will tell a limited truth because it creates tension.
I suspect that in reality the disc will have very heavy encryption on it nad be of little use to anybody. If it hasn't then yes, that is serious.

when i was working at a RAF base the security was a joke, it was given to an outside company, id better not name them but ive seen their name on speed cams, they had made more balls ups than a juggler, on one occasion 2 men got on the base by waving tesco club cards in the air & drove straight on, they were spotted trying to get on an aircraft out on the tarmac the same night, despite of this they were given more responsibilities on the base including the pass office on the gate, a job being done by 2 school leavers that had joined the said company, & yes this is another services facitlity that was losing p,c`s, they should have left the security to RAF personnel as secondary duties, at least they checked cars over properly unlike the idiots they brought in that never checked my car once in 4 years!.
