After the Shock of seeing the Tractor Engine internal, Or Lack of, imagine my shock when i got a phone call from a guy that bought the MV6 engine, Saying have you got anymore, mines terminally ill.
he bought the MV lump to put in his 2.5 Vectra. Complete strip and rebuild, New cambelt kit, HG's, you name it and it was replaced..
So out with the lump from the 71k Elite (that i was gonna rebuild for mine) and off to stafford.

Unlike Six Million Dollar Man, no enormous technology needed lol, just skill and lots of engines it seems lol

Went to collect my engine hoist from the guy who bought the MV6 engine and the 71000 Elite lump.
The story is this.....
He rebuilt a 2.5 engine for his Vectra and then snapped the cambelt, so he rebuilt it again. guess what.. cambelt snapped. so thats when he decided to use the MV6 engine from the one I broke.
And you've seen the 1st pic at the begining of this thread of how that ended..
NOW...After Completely stripping the 71000 mile Elite engine and swapping all of the vectra bit's over he found........................... the OIL PICK UP was full of silicon from the 1st rebuild.
It starved the bottom end of oil and it seized, while the top end was still moving. ...Snapped belt. Not thinking they used the same pick up on the next 2 engines THIS is the result on the MV6 engine

4 Conrods are snapped, the cranks has snapped off at No.5 bigend WEB (NOT THE BEARING)
The crank sensor is bent internally so cannot be removed, The Block has 10 holes in it and is belled and the sump was cracked.

The only word I can think of is .. "ouch" .. :(
Goes to show why we put oil in the damned things though !!!

Just goes to show that there is no such thing as a partial engine rebuild. :o The tiniest details can do the most damage.
A mate of mine had a Rover V8 that let go quite impressively. Centre main bearing broke away from the block and the crank looked like it had tried (and almost succeeded) to tie itself in a knot. First bad sign was that when he turned it over on the starter the front pulley stayed still. ::)
When you hold a crankshaft, they're not insubstantial things either. Mind boggles at the forces involved.

Many years ago, my old man had a Renault 30TX 2.7 V6. He sent it in for an engine rebuild and the machanic had left a socket of a con rod nut which came through the block as soon as the car was started ;D

In the preseence of oil etc it turns into gorilla snot!

Not sure WHO built the 1st one, but....... even the MV had vast amouts of silicon arounf the rear main cap and sump bolt holes

Well in which case hes been buggering about......silicon!!! :( >:(.
Christ, if silicon would do the job we wouldn;t all be paying considerably more for fancy sealents in smaler quantities.
Hes breaked that himself!

Given that he would have to swap the sump to fit the lump in the vectra, I bet hes used some of the BandQ value silicon to seal it!
I would warn him that he needs the specialist Vx stuff for the next one! (the grey cartridge tube type as used for the oil cooler!)

This time it was rebuilt by an EX-Vx workshop supervisor, if that makes any difference ;D ;D ;D
I must admit tho, I saw it yesterday and ..It is a very tidy looking Install.
