Title: A Dad at 50!!
Post by: bob.dent on 10 October 2008, 11:39:25
No not me!!   ::)

My brothers wife has just given birth to a baby boy. :y It's his second marriage and he didn't have any kids with his first wife. He got married to a younger woman (mid 30's) a couple of years ago and at the ripe "young" age of 50 they now have their first child.

How do you think he will cope? I'm 54 and having brought up 2 sons I don't think I'd have the patience to bring up a kid now. :-/

Thoughts??

Congratulations to all concerned ....

As to thoughts ... one of the reasons I chose to be "bricked" some years back was that I decided that I would not wish to be a father past 40 ... I really enjoyed teaching my kids.. football, swimming, climbing etc etc .. and at times it was hard to keep up with them then .. and I was a fit mid-thirties .. the idea of being 60 with a ten year old you can't give back ... nah .. not for me.....

But I accept I was lucky ..  2 healthy kids - one of each - and no reason to want more, for those who don't have kids, or who have "lost" them for various reasons ... I can understand why they might have different views.

Yep, I had the snip when I was about 40 too for the same reasons.
However, my brother's an ex-footballer (not pro) and still keeps himself pretty fit so he should cope............for a while! ::) I just can't get my head around the fact that he'll be 71 when it's his son's 21st birthday. :-/

I am 51 (just) and the littl'un turns 2 in December ---- keeping up with the wife is hard enough, now, doing it after a game of football ( nearly 2 and he plays better than me !!) is knackering --- but I wouldn't swap it for the world  :)
