Post by: Marks DTM Calib on 15 December 2006, 10:09:44
So, anybody wish to hazard a guess as to which part of the vehicles system this fluid (?) has come from:

Oh dear, last time I saw anthing like that it came off a 14 year old Senator!

Somehow I suspect the braking efficiency will be significantly improved!  ;)

I reckon power steering :y

Ok....its brake fluid......and its pretty bad to.

It should be pretty clear with a slight yellow tinge to it....and as said, its only from the header to...

Am I right to think you will be renewing all the brake fluid and if so are you planning on doing a guide as I know there is one for bleeding but not a guide for complete brake fluid change.

This is one job I would like to do with my car  :y

What has caused that colour change, Mark? I know the pipes are aluminium and the header's plastic, but is it rust or does all brake fluid go that colour when it degrades?

Years ago when young and daft we used to trickle old brake fluid doun the neck of the carbs with the filter removed.  Done the same job as Redex and created a cracking white smog behind the car when you revved it up.

Dunno if it actually done the same job as Redex, but looked convincing!   As I said, young and daft....   ;D

No!  I should forcing said liquid down the throat of a certain garage's service manager!

I must stress at this point while Mark is fixing all the wrongs of my ex car, that I maintaned a full service history on it until mid way through last year when I had decided it was time to replace, even then it still went in for new crank sensor, rear discs and pads all round, Oh yes, and renewing the brake fluid on account of it being hygroscopic!  My problem is that I wouldn't know what colour or viscosity it is meant to be (not until now that is!)

Possibly not Hotel21.....but i remember my Dad used to pour redex into the carb, with engine running, then take it for a drive....with me as passenger....he drove it gently till he turned onto the main road....then floored it.....smoke screen was impressive  :y ;D
