may i point out the wifes nagging cannot be included ;)
ive had broken ribs, nose, crushed hands and laid up on my back in agony. but having severe sinusitis is the worse, the pain was that horrendous i wanted to die. 6 operations to correct it after 3 yrs continuous pain :( :(

Renal colic.
-
Kidney stone :'( :'(

I had a guy open a car door into my leg, I was filtering past stationary traffic on a motorbike doing about 30mph. Fortunately he had only just opened it, half a second earlier and I'd have taken the whole door off with the much more disasterous results.
I think it stopped hurting after about 6 months or so.
-
Absess under my wisdom tooth. Minor complaint, really, but absolutely agonising.
-
You probably won't like this ... so only read on at your own risk .....
Extreme pain can be qualified as either long term continuous or short term excruciating .. this is under the latter .....
Some years back (17 odd) I had to have a "Cystoscopy" .. which for those who don't know is a camera on a tube inserted up through the penis to look inside the bladder. The modern version is quite simple and painless, however, 17 years ago this was "cutting edge" technology and the "tube" that carried the camera, electrics and a water supply for lubrication was slightly larger than a piece of "co-ax" cable .....
Needless to say this could only be inserted whilst the patient was under a "General Anaesthetic" as it is fairly obvious that it would be a "tight fit" .......
So I get the needle and go under, expecting to come round 30 minutes later with some residual discomfort that lasts about 4-5 days .....
Due to an error by the anaesthetist I wake up after 5 minutes, the tube is still inserted, the pain is terrible, and for some inexplicable reason ..... my body in its confused state ..... decides to give me an erection ...... (don't laugh .... )... so I'm lying there with a growing "stiffy" with a plethora of technology protruding from the end, a doctor wondering what the hell is going on, and the most extreme pain I have ever felt ....
I passed out ......
When I woke up everything hurt .. lots .... but apparently I was the talk of the hospital ... seems the doctor was somewhat traumatised by 2 things ... the "thing" he was holding suddenly starting to "grow"... and the "unconcious" patient suddenly screaming "my f*****g c**k hurts" in his ear !! (I didn't know I'd done that bit !!)...
I wouldn't wish that 30 seconds on anyone (except perhaps GB now I think about it ... )
:o :o :o :o :o :o

Gall Bladder stopped working after three large stones lodged in the outflow bit. Was on IV Morphine and it wasn't touching the pain. Within 48 hours of driving from Manchester to the South Coast in pain I was under the knife....stones were the size of peanut M&Ms
-
About 9hrs after falling off my bike, after the painkillers wore off. I was in that much pain, I got up to go and throw up. Never made it, passed out on way to bathroom. If I'm honest, that did hurt a bit....
-
When I was in my 20's working as a field service engineer, I leant into the back of my estate car to get my rather heavy tool box. As I pulled it towards the back of the car I felt a sharp click in my back and a small twinge but thought nothing more of it. Then had a 45 min drive home and when I arrived I couldn't get out of the car for the excruciating pain in my back. Apparently I'd "popped" a disc out and although it went back in again it had trapped a sciatic nerve. I had to crawl to the house on my hands and knees and was then laid up for 3 weeks before I could walk again. It's truly the worst pain I've ever known. I couldn't sleep as every time I moved the pain jolted me awake and I could only get to the bathroom and loo by crawling on all fours. When I was eventually up and about again I endured Sciatica (pain that travels from your back and all the way down your legs) due to the trapped nerve for a further 18 months. Had a weak back ever since. :'(
-
had some old cow of a dentist try & pull a tooth that had an absess under it, 6 injections & still didnt numb it, result was she broke the tooth, split my gum, split my lip, split my mouth, cut my tongue & the blood was everywhere & i started choking on it,coughed blood over her whitecoat & up the walls, i was crying with pain & ended up getting rushed to hospital with cotton wool still left in my gob where she left it, had to go back to the hospital 2 weeks later after the immense swelling went down to have it out.
-
Fell off a step ladder I was standing on about 5 foot high and landed on my bum/back, pain was good - I hadn't broken my back.
Still sore after nearly 4 months.
I have had broken toes - not bad, heavily bruised toes - worse than broken, stiches in a toe - agony but not as bad as back, broken rib - mainly discomfort, fillings with no anasthetic - after finished is OK.
Caught a finger on a radiator fan - sore - OK when blood under nail was popped.
Grabbed wrong end of soldering irons - ow
-
.38 threw my left lower leg, 4in blade stuck against a rib or my head held in a car door frame...
There mostly the worst injury's I've suffered, but with the adrinalin and the "moment" so to speak I don't really recall much pain at any of the times.
But the worse pain I have ever had to enjure is from Idiopathic intracranial hypertension
All the fun of a brain tumor, without the tumor...
-
In my days when I did a proper job, I've fallen off ladders, roofs, telegraph poles, been attacked by dogs, got into fisty cuffs with customers. None of that ever seemed to hurt (with exception of when a ladder slipped on a patio one day - instinct is to bury your fingers into the side of house (rendered in this case), which left 2 big red blood streaks down the side of this white house ;D)

I had something similiar ..I never see such a thing and nothing that hurts more.. :'(
And they dont use injection ..After the operation I remember I couldnt walk and cant pee.. >:(
-
Renal colic.
ditto, also having to pee after the op to remove the kidney stone, glad i was sat down......
-
Losing a £10 note while at a footie match. ;D
Having a misaligned shoulder put back in, without any numbing :'(
-
RTA resulting in a smashed left forearm ,broken in six places.
It was plated up with three steel plates screwed into the bones.
After 20 months they were removed using a chisel and hammer as the bone had grown in and around them.
This was in the late seventies when you got one post operation morphine injection and then you had to grin and bear it.
I was screaming for it to be amputated ....... :'(

Better lock this thread before Lizzie comes on & goes on about child birth & telling us men we don't know what pain is ::) ::) ::) ::) ;D

Three things spring to mind
Appendicitus....
Walking on a broken leg directly after being knocked off my bike (and then taken home by the police before my mum drove me to hospital!)
The 30 minutes directly after a barium enema

lower stomach spasum.
Occording to the Dr, it is more painful than having a limb cut off without anisthetic :'(

Back in the 70's I ran a mobile disco and we used flash pots ( the gizmo that causes the big flash and smoke puff at pop concerts of the day). Anyway --- the almighty flash you see on stage uses about 1/2 teaspoonful of magnesium oxide powder.
I was filling one of these (against all H&S regs -- entirely my fault) from a pot the size of a jam jar, when some unknown plonker plugged the gizmo in and flicked the ingite button !!!!
I literally went up like a roman candle -- apparently the scream was heard for miles :o
Anyway, once I had got over the initial shock I organised someone to carry on running the show (the show MUST go on!!) and asked a mate to give me a lift to the casualty department. By all accounts I was still smoking when I walk through the door.
Then all hell let loose -- I was surrounded by medics and shot full of drugs -- from then on I was as happy as Larry (although I did cuss when they tried to cut off my brand new shirt!!).
I was transferred on blues and twos to the specialist burns unit at Frenchay and got a little belligerent with "Sister" when she wouldn't explain what they were doing ... swift injection and I woke up two days later !!!!!!
After all that it still didn't hurt ---- until they wanted to change the dressings !!!! Never felt pain like it !!!! Every day they had to clean the wounds and scrape off dead tissue --- as The Boy would put it --- it DID tingle a bit !!! :o !!!!
The scars remained rather tender for several years -- I even beat Michael Jackson to wearing one glove all the time ( except mine was greenish leather!).
30 years later the scars have all but disappeared -- the hair never grew back, but I am as handsome as I ever was ::)

Pretty sure it is!
Go away, give birth, then come back and tell us what pain is! ;D ;D ;D
Having said that I would rather give birth than have another tattoo! That was pain! Self inflicted though I know!
Achilles tendonitus! OUCH! :'(

I have suffered form Trigeminal Neuralgia for 19 years, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trigeminal_neuralgia
Apparently it is the most severe pain known, I can confirm that one, and was once the main cause of suicide in the old days

I think that would be me, i can't stand head aches. Luckily i don't get them often, when i do it's pain killers, else it turns into migrane & then i'm totally stuffed.
Other than that, i've had kidney stones & they are very painfull. The Dr gave me a shot that they give to women when giving birth & it didn't even touch it.
Totally different pain i know, but the worst thing i ever felt was losing my brother when aged eight. I still miss him even now :'(
-
Well I haven't had anything as winceworthy as Entwood.
Maybe I had some really painful times in my childhood but from what I can actually remember, only a couple of years ago I had a severe bout of vomiting.
After the first 3 or 4 retches my stomach had completely emptied. Normally it stops there and I feel much better.
Not this time. It just kept retching and with nothing to bring up the pain was incredible. It went on for about a minute but seemed like an hour at the time. It was so bad I was in tears rolling around on the floor - ROFC I suppose!
Not as painful though and I keep doing this, standing on an upturned 3 pin plug. That is quite painful (but only for a few seconds) if the full force of your step goes down on it!
-
Speaking of recently ...Coming out of my second hip replacement operation i was in agony and freezing cold, seems they didnt give me too much of something that made me sick as a dog after the anesthetic at my first hip replacement (other leg) :y
Just letting you guys know what your in for when you get older & need hips replacing LOL ;D ;D ;D
Seriously its nothing once out of ozzie & in most cases very succesfull
-
Kidney stones, twice,
Second time I tried to convince myself that pain is only a electrical signal going to the brain to tell it something is wrong and that being 'hard' I could overcome this by mind over matter.
No I decided to roll around the floor screaming like a baby until the pain made me puke again,
Seemed like a good idea ::)

having my entire body go into violent cramp following a heat injury at Sandhurst. The cramp happened in the Ambulance on the way to Frimley Park, I had one leg on the ceiling, one leg attacking the paramedic, one arm trying to go through the window and the other on the opposite stretcher, not to mention the entire spinal column in spasm. Lasted about 20mins until a doctor in A&E gave me some diazapam and the world seemed such a great place after that........
Mind you I am lucky in that many people who reach the temperature I got to (41.9C) end up dying slowly of multiple organ failure. I owe my life to the actions of an Army Doctor :y
-
most pain ive ever been in was after waking up after a discectomy and laminectomy on my lower spine
I woke up swearing and screaming for pain control
took 6 months to recover.
turns out they damaged the root of my sciatic nerve and it cant be fixed that was in august 2002
I still have a compressed nerve and scar tissue aggrivating the whole area
I take 20 pain killers a day
I can suffer the pain in the summer months but the cold winter months are awfull (thank god for heated seats)
was told i would be back at work in 3 weeks HAH! 5 years later im still not working full time and i am in more pain than i was pre op
Doug
oh and forgot about the time a roofed my car broke my left wrist and dislocated my right shoulder that wasnt sore at the time but half an hour later eeeek
-
A dentist injection which went right into the nerve... feels like your are chewing on a 240v live wire.

Not done badly to be honest.
Spinal tap for suspected meningitis is probably one of the worst, along with impaling my finger on a large pallet filled with wood on one of the outer hebrides, still scarred from that one

Bike accident in 1976,just before my 17th birthday.
I was on the back of my mates bike (coming back from the pub ::)),came round a sweeping bend doing fast mph.At the finish of the bend is a crossroads and traffic lights.I can stillremember thinking "I hope these lights are green" they werent they were red and a car was sitting stationary at them.My mate froze (with fear presumably) didnt slow down ,brake etc so we pluoghed into the rear nearside of the car and then hit the traffic lights.
result was my tib and fib came out through the skin and cut the nerves to the right foot,my kneecap and surrounding joint were in god knows how many bits,my left kidney was furbared, chipped vertabae/hairline spinal fractures and the most impressive black eye you have ever seen.when I regained full conciousness (briefly) a few hours later the pain was indescribable, screamed like a banshee and then passed out probably from a big dose of morphine for several days. It was a really good night up to that point. ;D
-
Migraine, less as i get older but the pain is unbearable, vomiting etc. I've had appendix out, bike crashes, been cut out of cars, root canal work but most of these are short term sudden pain. Migraine can go on for days on & off, my attacks usually last a few hours but are as intense as a sudden pain...relentless. Mine are always on the right temple & constant rubbing with the base of the thumb relieves things a little to the point i've woken up next morning With dried blood on my temple where i've rubbed the skin away in pain.
Worst thing is when folk say they feel a bit rough "i've got a Migraine" No, you've got a bad headache, you can't function with a Migraine.
-
Similar to Albitz in some ways.
Fell off Kawasaki KH 400 in 1978. Landed on my right knee and snapped my femur clean in two. (I heard it crack and break). Ended up lying in the middle of the road with the cats eye in my back. :'(
Looked down saw my left leg looked normal, but my right leg completely filled my trousers, even though they were extremely baggy in 1978. Friends had to drag me out of the road up onto the grass verge as I was blocking all the traffic.
When I got to hospital they had to cut my trousers off as they would not pull over my legs. The pain was fine while I was on morphine, but once it wore off............oh sh*t!
The next day I had to sign a consent form for an operation to have an 8 pin metal plate put in my leg, (I still have it, although it is no longer in my leg)
Luckily I had just turned 18 and was able to sign, as my parents were on holiday. We had just had a massive house party and a late night high speed bike ride seemed a good idea at the time when you are 18. :D :D
Happy Days :y

Blasted in the face with steam...long story....1/2 hour to get to hospital,another10 mins waiting until they got fed up of the (Big Baby) screaming and gave me a morphine jab.
Took a couple of months for skin to settle down. Lucky it was only a couple of seconds, any more and 1/2 my Bum would be on my face by now. :o

Took me 3 month to get out of a wheel chair and 6 months before i could walk again without a stick >:(

I had a wisdom tooth that needed removing. The procedure needed the tooth drilling in half to split the roots up. She and I both found out that the injection hadn't taken when she hit the nerve.
Long story (and half a dozen more injections) short, she had to finish the job without being able to kill the pain. I cried like a rather baby all the way through :(
Don't have injections now - because I know it's going to hurt up front it's somehow easier.

LOL was really horrific I suffered too :D
-
Difficult to say which was the worst, all very different.
Most worrying, pleurisy 999 Job 2 lots of morphine did not touch the pain diclofenic, I think, helped.
Most agony but with instant relief, after the pain, was an emergency chest drain pushed in without any aesthetic, no time.
Longer term pain, to some degree still is, following an operation to remove a lung following cancer.

One word - GOUT. First 2 attacks are the worst, then the material between the joints is beginning to wear away so it becomes less sensitive.

painwise got to be sciatic nerve trapped absolute agony so much so would have had the leg cut off if i could!!!
however someone tell me why when you injure yourself be it a bang on the head or a punch in the guts or a stubbed toe or any injury you care to name,
why do people rub it? it doesent take the pain away or anything does it?
i find it so funny when people do it i crease up even if the injury is serious!!! its got me into a lot of trouble over the years :-[

Funny you should say that Doug, as that's more of less what my Wife said when she saw me :o. Fortunately I've only had a couple of mild cases of it since the first bout and finger's crossed will have no more :-X ::).
-
I think I suffered my first Migraine yesterday, the symptoms were right but?? :-/ :-/ I must confess I've always thought it was just a bad headache but I owe an apology to all regular sufferers... I could hardly move yesterday! The wife was even more concerned because I actually called off sick from work last night, something I NEVER do!
Come to think of it, perhaps that is what I've been getting lately when I get a very sudden and painful headache :-/ :-/

Better lock this thread before Lizzie comes on & goes on about child birth & telling us men we don't know what pain is ::) ::) ::) ::) ;D
Lol, sure its no worse than getting on a push bike a bit quick and sitting on your nuts....
PMSL ;D I've done that too many times to mention.
Bicycle chainring opening my right shin (again on the same scar from the previous time) has to come pretty high. 24 stitches and I have a very badly chipped shin-bone. The slightest touch or mild knock on my shin now renders me near to puking in pain.
The worst one for me though was someone tripping and pouring a fondue pot of boiling cheese all over my lap and hands. It's like rather' napalm as it sticks to you.
MOD: Oh yeah. and whilst working at a pub I was at the bottom of the chute for the beer barrels and was loading them into the cellar with the dreyman at the top loading the chute. A beer barrel bounced and squashed the end of my 3rd finger on my left hand to about 3 mm thick. There was blood everywhere and it took about 5 years for the nail to look anything like normal again.
-
It's not the worst pain but it is CONSTANT. When i was 23 I hurt my back while moving an extended 30' ladder. after 6 months of physio, no change so had xrays. Diagnosis... Spinal Bifida. Not severe, but it does mean that i get sciatica most days at some point and I'll continue to do so till I move to my personal chipboad/plywood windowless apartment.
-
went into hospital for a hernia op years ago.
The actual hernia was fine, big lump in my side & throwing up a lot.
But I still remember to this day, after being told I couldn't go home till I had peed, standing in the loo & the second I started nearly passing out with the searing pain.
I gained a temporary form of tourettes ( I think sh!t, f&ck, ba$t@rd bo!!ocks was the correct order that I shouted at the time)
I had every lower body muscle clenched up around my neck, trying to stop mid stream, I thought I would go again later when things had calmed down a bit, but alas nothing would stop it.
so the pain got stronger & stronger until I had finished.
I then dragged my crumpled carcass back to bed vowing not to do that again for a long time
In the end it lasted a day or two.
