Post by: Taxi_Driver on 10 October 2008, 21:07:07
Original went wrong about 6 months ago....and I replaced with a 2nd hand one.

It seems last weeks non starting episode was a warning...and at lunchtime decided to give up working.

For the rest of the day....ive been forcing it to start on LPG, which its been doing.....but im unsure tomorrow morning when its cold if its gonna want to start on LPG  :-/

Guess i'll find out in the morning  ::)
Really want it to tho.......coz it'll be scrapyard time again for another one  ::)

Do you run around with the petrol tank level very low when on LPG? Just wondering if it's sucking air and that's killing the pump?

Doesnt usally get too low........only sometimes warning light on for petrol.....i think its the pressure of pump running and no petrol injectors firing is the reason the pump is under more of a strain  :-/

I'll find out tomorrow......mind u i had to go earlier....engine pretty cold.....it eventually started on LPG after about 20 mins of trying to force it to start on LPG....when it did it fired fine.....think there maybe a temp decision of the ecu....on when it will start on LPG  :-/

shouldn't be all the fuel is doing is returning via the normal route, the pertol is flowing at no higher or lower pressure and the pump is running no more or less load

Fair comment  :y

Tho Mr DTM reckons fuel pumps rarely fail on Omega's....so only reason ive one fail and another one....is the pump is under more pressure.....just pumping fuel around not going anywhere....if you see what i mean.....if the injectors were firing....which they aint if on lpg....surely the petrol pressure must be higher  :-/

Some 25 years ago when LPG was popular I ran an Escort Mk2 company van,  a service was due and I asked the garage to clip the fuel pipe as it had come off when on lpg pouring petrol out after the pump.

Some time later I was away on a course and someone else was using my van, it caught fire, fire brigade tried to remove the gas tank, silly as it had a pressure relief valve for such an event. Anyway van, with all my tools and loads of spares was written off.

I was told to shut up about asking the garage to fix the fuel pipe, cos they had not, and the company then went on to do a nice fiddle on the insurance. ::) ::) ::)

Second hand one. It might have been on it's way out anyway.

I'm away again on petrol now   :y

My 2.2, did, after some persuaion, start this mornning from cold on LPG, missed a bit for a few mins....but after that ran fine  :y

Off to local scrappy (well 10 miles away  ;D )

And now my 2.2 has a petrol pump donated by a VectraB estate.....and exchange of £15  :y
BTW its exactly the same pump, even the plastic moldings attached to pump were the same  :y

where is your local scrappy?

Theres a few dotted about....

Theres a vx breaker in Great Somerford.....removes parts himself and is very expensive.

The one I went today is near Broad Town.....cars all stacked up on each other 2 high......sometimes they get the bits....if they think its a tad dangerous....other than that its help yerself.
Entwood would probably know this scrappy as well.
