Title: another one for the computer boffins..........
Post by: sir moanalot on 11 October 2008, 12:45:56
my missus lives next door to me so i am trying to get her on my wireless system- netgear router. my laptop can go wireless throughout her flat but her laptop older type with card) will not reach, even with an n1 high range, high  transfer card it will not show any wireless options in range (but the cheaper card will- and says there's a good signal, but drops down to 16mbps so drops off the connection)
my question is is there an intermediate unit that can go half way to transfer on the signal ? the distance is approx 50 meters with some walls -any advice would be appreciated  :y

does it have an aerial or is it a built in PCI?
Can it detect connection if it is in your house?
maybe worth hardwiring and getting a driver update

also make sure your SSID broadcast is on

would it be better to upgrade my router hub to a higher spec one? curretly i have the basic sky supplied netgear one, but theres one in argos 270 mbps and range 400mtrs?
the higher spec lan card faired worse than my cheaper one!
i find it a bit confusing, wether the receiver needs to be more powerful or the router transmitter?  im very confused .com!!!! :-[
