Title: completely blown away by a.........
Post by: Jay w on 13 October 2008, 11:10:08
Smart car  >:( >:(

Driving home on friday, crusing at my usual 3500 rpm  ::) when this little yellow smart car came blasting it past me.....i kid you not he passed me like i was stood still....

58 reg bright yellow and the small one as well, not the 4 door one......

I could hold a steady distance from it but it mean driving at some silly speeds  :o

He must have been wringing the nuts out of it, and trust me i wasn't exactly sitting around

Possibly, but trust me this this was into triple figures and still seemed to be pulling.....

the guy driving was either brave, stupid or both, if he had an accident there wouldn't have been much of him left!!!!

There was a test on Fifth Gear last year. You cant break the cage on these little buggers, it was still intact after a smash into a concrete slab at 80mph. However, it doesn't matter what you drive, 80mph to 0mph in an instant means you're brown bread (brain into skull, heart into ribcage etc.)

I saw that. they also ran a Corsa (?) into another concrete slab as a comparison. Although you could still open the doors on the Smart after the accident, if you remember, the person sat on that side of the car wouldn't have walked again as there was f*** all left of the footwell area. The concensus of opinion was that they'd have prefered to have been in the Corsa. :-?

At those sort of speeds coming to a rapid stop the vital internal organs would look like they had been in a food blender :o

I think I'd take my chances in my NCAP 4 Omega (if you read the text, older Omegas without side air bags are only NCAP 3) rather than his NCAP 5 Smart.  ;)

I have it on good authority that to get 80 out of a Smart you have to wring its' neck. Something had been done to this one. :o

Evo magazine tested one with a GSXR 1000 lump in it .......they said 170 BHP and little torque at low revs made it.........interesting. :y :y
