Title: Sex Discrimination - Car Insurance!!!
Post by: Markie on 16 December 2006, 10:59:25
Some of you may know i am loking for the right 4x4 or omega estate for my wife.

Last night we pondered an MV6 and did some homework on its insurance.

Wife currently pays £400 for her 2.5 renault.

I pay £500 for the MV6. My insurer WONT under any circumstance let her drive mine  :y

But get this.....

More than ( quoted me £800 for mine and i refused) have quoted her £290 for a 1999 3.0 MV6 !!!!!!

She has 5 years NCB to my 3 years. But she has 6 points to my 0.

So how can the same company insure her for 60% less than they will insure me!!!!!!!! our quotes are basically for the same car, same house, same uses and mileage!!

WOMEN!!!

think is women (in general) drive as slow as my grandma.

Very few get really involved and "like" driving IMO.... probably going to get beat up for saying that  ::)

Just my experiance that they just don't like driving fast like we do, on a Sunday after noon if we had to drive someware back home i'd love to give an MV6 manual some stick though the lanes driving it hard. My mum would just potter along at 50 as normal  :(

Once question Markiec, the MV6 you were thinking for the Mrs, was it an Auto? When i was quoting up V6's a manual 2.6 was about £660 for me, and an auto was £560....

The 5 years NCD will make some difference.

Tho i suspect the points on her licence wont make any difference, i know my insurance comp doesnt consider the points unless its over 6.

Coincidently my wife's renewal quote arrived this morning. I didn't tink that £235 for a 1.6 Astra G was that bad but compared to your wife's quote it now seems expensive.  :(

Perhaps you should get her to insure your meega and add you as the main driver  :y

Thats what i do with my policies.....it adds about 10% to add a main driver i find

Oh btw one of my drivers has that on his licence IN10......made no difference  :y

I think that is because it encourages them to be legal

Was thinking that myself, It doesn't reflect on the drivers style or habits (except driving without insurance) So it doesn't hint a dangerous driver, as would speeding offences, dangerous driving etc..

aaaaah but you see i dont want her driving mine - ive had my facelift mv6 alloys one year and there is not one single mark on them yet. Thats all down to only me driving it.

My wife uses the kerb to guage how well she is parked...not her mirrors  ;)

I think its here NCB that makes the biggest difference, plus the fact that its an estate...

Not always the case.....

Me = 22 = insurance on the V6 CDX is £480 a year.
My Mrs = 40 = insurance on the meega = over £1k

That's why only I drive it :D

Well that means i'm a year younger than him and, well... it just seems somewhat strange. No offence james :D

Back on-topic - Insurance companies annoy me greatly by calling women drivers safer. They aren't technically, they're just a whole lot slower!! They have less spatial awareness and they are more prone to panicing behind the wheel. Safety is all about confidence behind the wheel. I guess us males counteract that by wanting to go fast all the time. But isn't that what cars with big engines are made for???

Oh and prizes for who can guess my insurance quote closest... I'm 21, I have a DD on my record, the car is a 1.4 litre 1995 escort, and I have no NCB, or previous insurance record.

I'm guessing around £2k

Probably less so now - many lasses are driving faster than their male peers.

I disagree with the safety/confidence link - I have know many confident drivers who I would not class as safe.  I think safety is all about awareness - most/all accidents are caused by lack of awareness, be it roads conditions, or actions of other people/animals etc...

Yeah, I guess the confidence thing was kind of a moot point if you have no skill :D Does help though!

Many lasses these days are doing a lot of things normally reserved for males their age. It's disgusting. Look at the drinking statistics ffs!!
