The main gym on our site held a charity event today for the help the heroes charity...We where told to cordon off an area so that the army could park up a tank,landy and few odds and sods so i put the cones out during my last half hour on duty...My colleagues come in and ask me if i want some overtime so i say yep and they tell me messers clarkson and hammond are coming to support it so the squaddies arrive and set up and start doing a 26 mile marathon on a exercise bike and rowing machine versus the gym instructors(all good natured) whilst the sarge and corporal try to engage the gym members and passing joe public into donating genorously (we put in £10 each) anyway it became clear that clarkson and hammond were not gonna show as the morning went on..pity really(i wanted me missus hammond book signing as a surprise)...Any way i stood nearby as instructed i watched the gym members show in their mercs and beemers and jags and only a few of em would put their hand in their pockets and give a few coins of silver or pound coins some would not even bother to acknowledge the squaddies prefering to cock a deaf un!!! as we say...I left at lunchtime cause of being on tonight and no signature or sign of the dynamic duo :( but i`m more upset at the fact the squaddies raised a grand total of £78 :'( and thats why i`m in a right stinker of a mood tonight these guys ask for nowt but few coins but all they got where i already pay enuff in taxes off 1 gym member to sorry all i carry is a credit card!!! Is this the real state of the British public that we can not spare our lads and lasses in the armed forces a few coppers??? an make sumbodys life that little bit easier????? >:( >:(

That's fricking outrageous but sadly not suprising. You showed incredible restraint mate, i could'nt have kept my gob shut, i'd have told them all what i thought of them in no uncertain terms.

Very sad but I'm afraid u'd probably have found a gym with a more 'ordinary members of the public' membership might have been more generous. People who have money usually wanna keep it. I remember vividly being paid £2 an hour to babysit for a very well off family and gawd did i earn it lol (going rate was twice that).

This is typical and a little embarassing. But what is more embarassing is the fact that they need to collect in the first place.
