Title: New gearbox software
Post by: Bandit127 on 17 October 2008, 19:07:26
I had my gearbox software updated today (mini facelift V5 => V9). I have to say the effect is fairly subtle but very positive.

The box feels lots less "slushy". Changes are quicker - especially on kick down. But they happen a bit later up the revs on medium acceleration.

3rd and 4th do lock up much more quickly and stay locked for longer. So engine braking works better when slowing down from 70 on the motorway.

Take up in 1st on a mild throttle has lost the harshness that can irritate passengers.

It was a Friday rush hour drive back to Southampton so I didn't test the limits of Sports mode...

On the whole the box seems more 'capable' and 'precise'.

Like I said, subtle but very positive and well worth the modest installation fee. Recommended.

TB did mine - details here

Thanks TB  :y

P.S. Tech 2 also had a O2 sensor fault logged (code 13) and he diagnosed a faulty fan switch as the cause of hot running. Jobs for the upcoming Cam Belt session. (Though I may do the fan switch ASAP - I don't want to blow a HG)
