Err...I have....had only just restarted the router due to another problem, got onto OOF, put up a comment and no refresh...was convinced it was my problem but couldn't understand why other websites were working :-/

No, it was definately a problem here. Linux ain't great at resource management, and it made a mess of memory, over stretched itself, and did what Linux does when it runs out of memory - tied itself in a right disk thrashing knot.
