My missus was brought up in a working mens club. Brewery paid for everything. So you can imagine what she's like. :'(

The bit I am after is on next, the standby savers.  I want to know if they work and if they are worth it after seeing them on Dragons Den.

not sure about that one Phil - but the old man has one on his PC which detects when you power down and switches power off to the whole gang, he's got a scanner and a couple of printers and monitor running off it so saves quite a bit :y

Sounds like the same thing.

This looks like it has a socket that monitors the power and then controls the rest. :y

That kind of reminds me of 'startomatic' generators, lay idle till something is switched on. :)

I have one of the current sensing standby device on all my PC stuff so when I turn my PC off all the other sh1te gets powered down. Mine is the OneClick one, I believe. Seems to work OK.

The reality is, though, that most devices take negligible power on standby these days, and from a financial perspective these devices will take years to pay for themselves on an average setup.

The exception to that is Sky set top boxes which really are thirsty on standby (they don't actually have a standby, they have a mode whereby the red light is on and the video output is blanked but the box remains essentially powered-up.  >:(

Funny how the media haven't uncovered what Murdoch is doing for "climate change"....  ::)

They don't need to, but many UPS designs are not very efficient, unfortunately.

Summat like i do.....i have a 10 socket rail at the back of my desk behind the monitor....when i turn off the pc....i just hit the off switch for the rail....2 x printers/monitor/cordless hub/hp print server all go off then too, seems easy to do myself, without extra gadgets  :y
