RE my leaking rear door seal, inspected it this morning, the actual seal bit to the door looks ok, there no marks on it, its still soft, not hard.
I think its creaping in underneath it... you have the metal sill, then the rubber seal, the flap at the bottom where the rubber meets the metal, i think its getting in there, then comming in through underneath the internal plastic skirting.
I want to try and seal it along that edge, any ideas on some kind of sealant i can use? :-/

No idea - silicone bathroom sealent? ;D

Not as daft as it sounds, but i would use clear Tunnie, white might stand out a bit too much ::)

you can get black sealant here, surely it is available in UK DIY stores....?

-
or even try a different seal tunnie :y i'm sure mark or myself would lend you one to see if it cures the leak.

Have you proved thats where its coming in?

Its the only place it can be, i put that toilet paper on the sill, that prob did act as a wick.
But behind it, the carpet that runs up to the plastic skirting was damn.
I am thinking putting just a smear with a finger along that line to see if that fixes it.
I opened the door today, the seal is defo working felt it almost suckered on.
Door does not need adjusting, there is no movement on it, no noise from it at speed. When shut you can't feel any movement pushing against it.
Bar a whole in the chassis, i can't see any other possible place for it to get in.

Idea:Take the door card off and check if the water tight membrain is leaking, if so reseal it
You can make the rubber door seal swell by steaming them.
If you pour some water over the glass some will go inside the door and exit through the drain holes at the bottom of the door,I suspect the membrain is has dislodged

by membrain, do you mean this?

or the rubber seal against the window :-/

Nice picture of your probable leak point.
Gaffer tape comes to mind as long as your not going to want remove them again :y

Cheers for the idea, i will pop the door card off at the weekend.

Sorry yes the plastic film with glued edges.
Some call them shedders.

Personally i have never had that door card off, maybe it has been off before, and not put back right.
I have only recently discovered the wet floor as i never use the back seats, the water does smell stale it could have been there for some time, i did get a lot of water out the second time i Vax'd it.

Not sure that's there for water tightness. I've taken the door cards off my TD recently and someone had obviously been in before, but not sealed up right. There was no damp coming through.
I think I remember reading something to do with airbags and these membranes.

This is going to get tedious... ;)

Thats not a test, as you have NO WAY of knowing if it was a good seal along its entire length.

Why can I see a Captain Mainwaring moment hurtling towards us with unstoppable velocity? ;D

Why not proove the door is leaking by doing a 'hose test'?
Start at the bottom and work your way up spending a couple of mins on say a 300mm section, moving left to right and checking at regular intervals, maybe its me but surely its the most obvious thing to do to see where the leak is or indeed 'if' the seal is leaking and its not just a spilt bottle of Perrier???

I was just thinking that as I read the thread, that would be my first action as water leaks can be very deceiving :)
