my ex father in law has 3 beautiful classic jags including an exceptional mk2/ inspector morse. all have been lovingly restored and not a mark on any of them. who do the rac think they are to say they should be scrapped. tw*ts

I'm pretty sure they dont mean those. They're classics. But there should be a law that says he has to give one of them to me. ::)

So in a nut shell this quote means no more future classics, because they'll ALL be scrapped. Just like if you don't live in a house & pay council tax on it for a set time, the authorities can legally take your house from you & not pay you a penny, so the same will happen with your beloved car. I have a future classic that is not MOTed, insured or taxed & so it will fall into said quote.

I used to belong to the RAC until a few years ago when they became a public company. Instead of giving all their members part of the profit they decided to give it to just the original members who happened to be members of the board. :o :o
When the AA did the same a few years later they gave all their members around £200(approx)
I've been with the AA ever since. :-* :-*

What a load of b*llocks just compare the carbon footprint of keeping a well maintained and serviced 20 year old car on the road with the carbon emmitions related to the production, manufacture and distribution of a brand new car. >:(

well thank god the cavemen saw sense & dumped their old cars, after all its been proven that Co2 levels were higher then than they are now, total cr4p just to raise taxes, & this RAC chap must be after a peerage or something as he sounds like he has been enrolled to promote this global scam by a corrupt government >:( carbon footprint my 4rse.

What worries me is that people can publish this sort of Horsesh1t these days and, because it has some unproven dubious link to nut munching they are not publically lampooned for their total stupidity. It's become politically incorrect to question anything for fear of appearing at odds with the great religion that has arisen around green issues.
The key piece of information missing from this report is what percentage of total emissions comes from cars over 18 years old. I'd hazard a guess that it's the root of break all, so the measure will therefore do - you guessed it - break all.
I would imagine, with fields full of unsold new cars beginning to appear, that this piece of research was generously funded by the motor industry. >:(

i had an argument with a chap with a new porsche last year, he said my 1971 Mustang should be scrapped and off the road coz of the emissions, so i asked him how many miles he would expect to do in his £60k car and he said about 25k per year, well i do about 1500 miles per year on a brand new engine (which i built) so who uses the most fuel? who has more servicing? ( oil/filter disposal) he went off sulking lol ;D :y

Well I would suggest that if the car changed hands during its 18 years, it should be allowed to live.
But any old miser who keeps the same car for 18 years, both him and the car should be driven off the road! ;D
The most I ever kept a car was the 'meega I bought in late 2001 and sold earlier this year, which makes it 6.5 years...
