Title: Are these camcover gasket prices correct, for GM ?
Post by: JamesV6CDX on 23 October 2008, 14:02:01
Hi Chaps,

A potential customer has had a quote from a Vauxhall dealership for changing his V6 camcover gaskets and O rings (both sides) as follows:

Parts £33.31
Labour £134.00
Total £167.31 Inc VAT

Am I right in thinking this is incorrect?

They have also quoted, For replacing the ENTIRE cam covers, WITH gaskets and O rings

R/H Cover inc gasket £77.50
L/H Cover inc gasket £87.50
Labour £134.00
Total £300.00 Inc VAT

Surely there is some mistake?

Please advise, as although he's chosen to go with a local dealer for logistical reasons, I don't want him getting caught out - and going on the above, it sounds like he might!!

Cheers
James

Parts on the seals only sound to cheap.....

Parts with covers sounds right.

Covers are around 50quid to buy, then? plus the £25.80 +vat per side for the gaskets?

I thought camcovers themselves were a lot more than fifty quid  each :-/

As stated on another thread, the labour to do the seals probably doesn't include cleaning the breathers.

And many VX "professional" Jobs I've seen don't have the black sealent used... and have been done up to more than 8nm..

Sounds cheap to me... TBH they'll do exactly what they've quoted for though so won't clean anything, brathers included, and as stated will overtighten.

The job will be done by the YTS boy no doubt too :o :o

They are only a bit of moulded plastic after all.

Sounds cheap to me too as I know my local Vx main dealer charges £75 per hour just for labour. ::) ::) ::)

according to the book of times, it's gonna take 1.9hrs to remove and replace both cam covers.

1.90hrs x £75.00 = £142.50
