Title: Need to buy some bits ready to pick up EP Project5
Post by: PaulW on 20 October 2008, 19:41:10
Went to ElitePete's earlier to check out his latest Project Omega... ummm... not an omega... ummm ;D ;D ;D

Shall be taking delivery in the next day or 2...  And need some bits...

Old cages are buggered unfortunately, and needless to say, they've bloody shot up in price!!!

Now I do have an old fishtank in the garage, but I'm not 100% happy at the prospect of using that (its clumsy and heavy), seen a few other cages in the local pets store, but there like £30 a pop!

Now did think... What about a couple (3 infact) of plastic tub boxes (there currently in 3 boxes as it is like that), so did some googling and came across this...

http://www.hamster-heaven.com/article_01.html

Need the lid, ideally, as we have a cat...  Its easier to get a proper box with lid going like that I reckon, and will make a good enough habitat for the little critters!!!  If so, I can get 3 tomorrow (as keeping 3 seperate) and go from there...

As a quick teaser though, here be 1 of the blighters (the main bully, whom I shall call Stalin), the others will be known as Smirnoff and Eristov (the old one)

The other 2 (as I'm keeping 3) have been claimed by a good friend of mine, so were most likely doing a shop for her tomorrow too for some bits ;D

Wonder if those 2 are canibals and they've eaten the old one lol

Awesome little critters tho!  Still can't get over how tiny they actually are!

Don't get the type of hamster cage that consists of loads of tubes etc. They might look good, but IME they don't lock togother securely enough. We used to have a hamster that had a death wish - he was successful in the end  :-? - and he sussed out how to undo the sections. He made a couple of successful escape bids and was lucky a couple of times, in that non of our 3 cats were interested.
One Friday night's escape didn't go to plan though. A cat got him. :o
His grave had RIP ...... Rest In Pieces  :'(  :-? :-?

The only tubes will be bogroll and kitchen roll tubes inside the cage which gets created :)

We take our guinea pigs with us. It's quite easy with a meriva. Should imagine it would be tough with an omega saloon though. ::)

Do they have a car seat or do you just strap them in> I suppose you need a people carrier if you have a lot of Guinea Pigs.

If you had more than seats though - that would be awkwards

;D I actually thought that site was real for a moment then!!

Well, took 2 last week (now at a friends), and all ready now to get the other 3 from Pete as soon as he's ready  :y

Ended up getting 3 of these in the end...

Should do the trick at keeping them safe from the cat anyways  ::)
