Title: wifi- oh why oh why dont you work?
Post by: sir moanalot on 24 October 2008, 17:28:14
my missus lives next door to me as some of you already know and i can get wireless Internet on both of my laptops there (both within a year old)
but i cant get her laptop (Toshiba Satellite Pro Windows XP) to connect until I'm outside her front door about 20 foot away from the net-gear box.
i have tried a new more powerful antenna on the net-gear box, upgraded the wifi 100/10 card in her laptop and checked all her basic settings  all to no avail- any ideas??? >:(

Could there be a wireless phone inbetween that's causing interference?

With the BT Vision box they give you a pair of over the mains ethernet adaptors, but I laid ethernet cable - over one year it will pay for itself in saved electricity.

But now want more ethernet into the sitting room, will have to think about it !

Oh dear :(

Glad I decided to not use them - I just thought they were a bodge and didn't want the stuff going around my mains, especially as I have a few filters ect to protect kit
