Title: Passenger Air Bag Isolation
Post by: Lizzie_Zoom on 26 October 2008, 15:29:34
Thanks for all the answers to my Insignia Passenger Air Bag thread, which seem to indicate there are a number of cars already on the market with passenger air bag immobilisers.  :y :y :y :y

A question now arises I feel ::) ::)    ;

What is the legal situation if you, the driver of the vehicle, has immobilisised the air bag for an infant, but now your adult passenger subsequently sustains injuries in an accident that are deemed to have been avoidable if an air bag had been deployed, if you had not forgotton to reset it ? :-? :-? :-?

Could at least the driver be subject to civil action with the injured party claiming damages? :-?

I would imagine that the dereliction of your "Duty of Care" under civil law would be fairly obvious.

Even a warning sign might not get you out of that one  ;D ;D ;D

Not sure about civil action, but insurers take dim view about deactivation of safety devices.... to ensure your occupants are covered, you will have to inform your insurer about this and this may either affect your premium or invalidate your policy...

Same goes for removing headrests, BTW...

The last Elites (possibly other models, not sure) will disable the passenger airbag automatically if you have a child seat with the correct transponder.

It was only ever an option, though last eleites seem to come with most options fitted

The 206 also (like the 307 above) lights up the airbag light in the speedo so you notice it everytime you look at the speed.
