LOL, function of my crap Sony CRT is to hide a hole in carpet in dining room!

Yes but remember this is pre FQ75 era and is a better made before they slashed the prices TV.
And yes I did raid some money I had lying around and yes the new one is a Sony ;D
-
Ebay pulled my advert because they didn't like the wording and I sell on here within minutes!!!!

Trouble is, no matter what you think, a 10yr old CRT is knackered. The tube will have partial vac loss, and the phosphur will be tired. No exceptions.
To be honest, it has very low value. Brand new 32" CRTs at tescos for £200 will be better due to newer tube, and with crappy LCDs that size from around £300 (which will still be better picture than your CRT), so I think cem has right answer - let the kids have it in their room with the gayStation 3 :)

Nonsense, turn up the A1 a bit, good as new :y

And shorten its life still further ;)

Turn up the A1 a bit? All the way to Biggleswade?
WTF are you talking about and if this were done how? And why would it shorten the life?

Not even 9 years old!
And the picture is somehow or other still good, watching it now and all looks fine.
PS3 does bluray and I want to watch them properly!

I think he means brightness, anyway it is a basic telly done well. Except that 32" widescreen and flat tube is not basic and at the time IDTV was definately not.
But it is not full of electronic tweaking which means what they broadcast is what you see.

Sorry forgot to mention :
"turn up the A1, then flog it quick !". It might shorten its life a bit, but the old tubes do tend to soldier on for a while, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if that set outlasts some of Comet's new 30" LCD's.
One of the Logik brand is well known for blowing an inverter transformer after about 15months. That is clever electronics, I haven't yet found the clock they fit to make it fail just after the garantee runs out!.

Still confused on what the A1 is?
Is it the screw on the HV transformer? I thought that would mess all the focus up though? :-X
-
i'm not bothering to buy it, cos if its in worcester i wont be able to see it from here, no matter how big it is!

On normal TV's there are 2 screws on the LOPT transformer, one controls the A1, the acceleration potential and hence the brightness, and the other the focus. You can sometimes tweak these to get a brighter pic if the tubes a bit past it, BUT beware dangerous voltages around !.

It is, but via LOPT (Line OutPut Transformer) at back of set - used to generate the 25kV needed.
Blimey, all my C&G224 and TV exams coming back to me now ;D

I learned the fun way. You touch it, you get a shock, you don't touch it again. ;D

I've had a few dead arms off them (switched off) by not following the proper discharge procedure ::)
-
Aye, I know what you mean. I once got a shock off a radar test unit, and had to fill in a H&S form. One question was "what voltage did you touch? ". My answer was "I don't know, I didn't measure it before I touched it". ;D ;D ;D
