Just about to report a (telephony) fault on the line that hosts OOF.
This will, undoubtedly, lead to disruption of the ADSL that runs over it. My gut reaction is that its an exchange linecard fault (I initially thought it was a linecard fault here), so hopefully disruption will be minimal.

That it's happening ;D ..... I understood the first line of TB's post :y, I didn't need to read the 2nd line :-/ ... although I did get the gist of it. ;) ;) ;) (Cheeky young whipper snapper)

To clarify:
As you know, when OOF was set up, we used a paid for hosting company. WHo were rubbish. I dared suggest that the service was unacceptable, which resulted in them pulling the plug on us. Tossers.
Since then, it has run from here on a VM, and served over a broadband ADSL connection.
We are having trouble with incoming calls, which needs to be reported to BT. Those who have dealt with BT before know you have to disconnect everything, which includes the ADSL router, thus the outage.
If there is a line fault, there will be further outages whilst BT fix it.

Thanks greatly TB!! :y :y :y That now IS very clear! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D :y

Right, as suspected, they say fault at exchange (as I said in first post, I suspected linecard).
Forum back up now
-
obviously, expect further outages over next couple of days
-
i wondered why i couldnt get on a bit earlier :-? :-? :-? hopefully all sorted now :y :y
-
So you're hosting our virtual world on a VM? ::) :D

Yes.
An undisclosed (though easy to find out!) Linux running via VMWare Server on a Windows host

Cool, so you could use the "planned outages" as time to embed that map? :y

Sadly, does not appear to be that embeddable (is that a word?) :'(

I have a small team of developers at work. Do you want me to ask one of them about it?

PM sent. Last time I looked (a good while ago ::)), it was frames only. We can't do frames within our forum.

What speed is the ADSL line then?
Is the server your own personal sever? asin at home? :o

Adequate and Yes, in that order.

Cool! Nice one! :y
Works VERY VERY well then!
Im thinking about changing ISP, with Zen at the moment, but only on 256k (up and down) :'(
Thinking about the tiscali 8mb business one, as that comes with a static IP and its ulimited, would stick with Zen, but they are a little bit pricey.
Whats your thoughts?
-
I might have an HP DL360 with a couple of RAID 36Gb HDD drives (one of those rack mountable flat 0.5U jobbies) if you think it could help you out?
I have a couple of hundred which I manage for local government and they get swapped out regardless after the 3 year HP hardware cover runs out.
-
what exchange you off? AXE 10 or System X?
if its System X its a 2 minuite job AXE10 requires a bit of MML BLODEI: ;)
The way BT are going with there wonderful CTC there wont be much of us Switch Engineers left!

Zeemaps cannot do iframes for private maps. The Flash one (only one that works) is a bit crap to be honest

What generation is it, how many drives will it take (early ones up to G3/G4) were 2, later, iirc, were 4. Is it hosted, or is the server in a cupboard somewhere?

Think its an X, but been around 15yrs since I was in that exchange, and never took any notice - never thought I'd ever live here

I belive they are the 2 disk type. G4. Cupboard.

DL360 is the noisey 1U type IIRC?
G4 will be SCSI - I'll dig around at work if we have any spare drives of a useful size and let you know :)

BT want everything disconnected for some more testing. Sorry.
We're going down at midday for an unknown period.
-
`Bye all..... :'(
.....missing you already! :-*
-
The silly farts think it is now an internal problem... ...LOL, I think not!
Its either a linecard or a crossed line. Now I have 2 lines in house, but it certainly doesn't not appear to be crossed with other, so must be outside.
They won't give me test results, and all my contacts are out of office :(
-
Well it is 12.04 and I am still on line with OOF!! ;D :y :y :y
..........bye bye all if we go down in a mo! :-* :-*
-
bye bye OOF
-
welcome back
-
You too Jimbob :y

Hello, we are back TB :y :y :y
