Title: MG ZT/Rover 75
Post by: Del Boy on 27 October 2008, 18:26:28
Anyone got one? If so what they like me and the Mrs. have decided on a MG ZT next if we can't get a Volvo V70. :)

I'd go for the Volvo.  We've MOT'd quite a few of both, V70's don't seem to fail on much, whereas MG/rover 75 fail regularly on rusty brake pipes, worn front ball joints, (which is part of the arm and expensive ) , handbrakes not working, broken rear springs, and various other bits.

The engines are a bit suspect as well , with head gasket and cylinder head problems , and the gearbox isn't the strongest in the world.

Parts for MG seem mega expensive as well , we had to fit a new indicator/dip switch to an MG ZR recently ,  and it was over £150, the same thing for an Omega is about £40 I think.

Get the Volvo............if you want a car where spares are no longer available and the slightest bit of damage is going to result in a write off.....then get the Rover.

Also remember that none of these rolled off the production line after April 2005......so if its later than that then its been in field for a long time.

In fact, most of the last 2 years of production spent a long time in fields!

It was great Liam. I was one of the lucky ones, apparently. The head gasket didn't give me any probs. In fact, the car performed brilliantly for the four years I had it. Parts/servicing/fuel/tyres were outrageous, which is why I traded it in the end. But, be warned, as Mark and a few others have said, they are coming to the end of their useful life and parts, especially body panels, are becoming hard/impossible to get.

Panels are not to bad to get.....its all the plastic bits, the trims, the badges, the bumpers etc that are no longer available.

Its not helped by the fact that Rover were changing the trim every 3 months at one point with loads of special editions.....
