Title: Do you drive for fun?
Post by: JonArgraig on 28 October 2008, 11:21:26
Just out of intrest,

How many of us just go out for a drive for fun?

I do it often, it's great way to chill after work, cheaper than a night on the beer and a great chance to play with the camera.

What about you guys?

(BTW it's a multi vote poll - tick all that apply)

Used to years ago, but although I still love driving I don't find it so much of a pleasure these days with the traffic congestion and the price of fuel.
:( The 50 miles a day getting to and from work is enough. ::) Occassionally go out for a drive in the country at weekends to find a nice pub for a meal.

Still go out for drives when I'm at my house in Devon though. :y

Just wish I had the time. Used to love driving and would think nothing of a run from the South Coast up to Cumbria or further....now I have to fight to get a couple of hours to myself which wouldn't get me to the M4 and back

Yes :)

Quite regular for me to go to Lancaster Services on the M6 for just a Hot Chocolate!  Or around North Wales for shits & giggles!

Bike too when its nice, weekend jaunt to Prestatyn purely for fish & chips by the sea!

Do quite a lot of driving "for fun" in the Westfield. Go on a tour once or twice a year with these guys: http://www.se7ens.net/. Great bunch of guys maniacs. Time is generally spent finding the best roads during the day and in the evening we are either fixing broken cars in Hotel car parks or getting bladdered in Hotel bars. ;)

Quite often head down to the South Coast on a nice day. Loads of nice roads between me and there if you avoid the main roads.

Kevin

Much the same as Pete & Bob -- used to love it -- but the hassle these days takes the joy out of it!  When the buggy is up and running it will be a different matter !!!!

As long as there is no hurry and no compulsion to be somewhere at a given time. Last year we headed into North Yorkshire, ended up at the Tan Hill Inn, the real ale was so good we ended up staying and had to sleep in the car.

in my young days  :) a random drive in a r6 carlton (then omega) always cheered me up.
These days i tend to drive with a purpose eg.creamy hot choc in harvester or a blow-dry for goldie after a good scrub  ::)

Often pick a walk 50-70 miles away and enjoy the drive as much as the walk. As Jon said, taking the camera.

Depending on the mood it can be a 'progressive' drive or a motorised amble.

I enjoy driving. That's why I have a driver's car (despite my modest budget).

i enjoy driving, and i do a lot of miles in my car, so for me it has to be up together and something that i WANT to drive.........

Im not sure i could drive something mundane and wishy washy, in every car i have had there has been something that i have enjoyed, and i have to say pne of the ones i have enjoyed the most would have to be my Alfa Romeo GTV, just a cracking little car to drive in so many ways.....

for me the adventure is the journey, any trip we take in the car is something i try to make into a fun time, Mia loves coming out in the car with me for drives, when she asks where are we going my most common answer is 'there and back to se how far it is'   :y :y

I only voted once. Have a few chosen routes around the Lincolnshire fens, i can get to Markey Marks without using the M180. A little spirited in the Beastie or a quiet cruise in the Cortina.
Must be getting old, i love driving through the countryside!!! ::)
