Title: Barack Obama
Post by: Lizzie_Zoom on 28 October 2008, 18:59:25
Who else has an inner fear that Barack could well be assisinated either before or after the Presidential Election? :-/ :-/

I really do not want to think that awful thought :(, but watching the news about neo-Nazis planning such an event, and noting the feelings being expressed by all too many "all white Americans" especially in the 'South' I do seriously fear it!! :o :o :o :o ::)

What do you think? :-?   What do you think would happen in America? :-?   Would it affect us in the UK? :-? :-?   Do you care? :-?

We have to care - US affects us.

I think the days of Reagan's shooting are gone, and you'd need to be on the inside, or be a marksman to get near enough.

Leaving aside the indefensible actions of some racist skinheads, I think the US will face real problems if Obama wins.

First, and foremost, Obama will classify carbon dioxide as a dangerous pollutant  ::) that can be regulated, opening the way for new rules on greenhouse gas emissions. It will certainly hinder power generation. It could also theoretically mean (especially the litigious way that US society operates these days) that almost every endeavour, from farming to industry will be saddled with huge costs, making the country less competitive and deepening the global recession. He is also a big fan of Al Gore, which is deeply worrying.

http://wattsupwiththat.com/2008/10/16/obama-to-declare-carbon-dioxide-dangerous-pollutant/

Secondly, this from Joe Biden:
"In a stunning statement, Biden acknowledged that Obama’s lack of foreign-policy experience will provoke America’s enemies into creating an international crisis.  Biden apparently thinks this is just terrific."

I don't fancy another crisis right now.  :(

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/10/biden-to-suppor.html

Finally, I think he does not have the necessary business experience which is sorely needed in the current economic climate.

That said, McCain is pretty hopeless, in fact very hopeless. I think, however, that he would provide the slightly more stable transition from one president to the next.

For the voters, it's like choosing between Daffy Duck and Mickey Mouse.  :-/ ::)

For those who love as I do amazing facts from History, try the following facts concerning President's Lincoln & Kennedy.  It will keep you checking and thinking! :y :y

Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846.
John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946.

Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860.
John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960.

Both were particularly concerned with civil rights.
Both wives lost their children while living in the White House.

Both Presidents were shot on a Friday.
Both Presidents were shot in the head.

Now it gets really weird.

Lincoln 'S secretary was named Kennedy.
Kennedy's Secretary was named Lincoln.

Both were assassinated by Southerners.
Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson.

Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808.
Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908.

John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839.
Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939.

Both assassins were known by their three names.
Both names are composed of fifteen letters.

Now hang on to your seat.

Lincoln was shot at the theater named 'Ford.'
Kennedy was shot in a car called ' Lincoln' made by 'Ford.'

Lincoln was shot in a theater and his assassin ran and hid in a warehouse.
Kennedy was shot from a warehouse and his assassin ran and hid in a theater.

Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials.
And here's the kicker...

A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland
A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn Monroe.

 :D :D ;) ;)

Christians, and most other faiths for that matter, believe in an ultimate deity. That does not necessarily compel them to believe that a deity created the universe, but many do. Palin expressly said that creationism should not be part of the curriculum (in Alaska), but if the issue came up she would have no problem in it being debated. Barack Obama is self-confessed Christian, who claims to pray daily. Of course, science itself preaches a form of creationism: Stephen Hawking says that "The universe can spontaneously create itself out of nothing." I don't want to get into a religious debate here - indeed I won't as I believe spiritual matters are personal. But, it would seem that both Palin and Obama claim to be Christians. If you think believers are nutters, then that's fine, but you'd need to tar both with the same brush.

I just hate all this sensationalist muck-raking. I want to hear about economic policies, foreign policies and so on. Not all this personal gobshite.

As time goes on it looks like Sarah Palin is starting to become more of a liability to the Republicans than an asset.
I believe that Obama will win....and then? :y

22 November 1963..Dallas ..Texas.I would prefer Obama to win.....so I hope not...but.... :-/ :y

That is the event that still plays on the mind Optimist, and JFK was all about change just like Obama is. :( :(

Is it only Democrats that get assassinated Lizzie....or have any Republicans gone the same way...? :y :y

Yes, good question!  President Abraham Lincoln was a Republican and was assisinated in the Ford Theatre, Washington on 14th April 1865. :'( ;)

He was shot in the theatre but was taken to the Barbers accross the road where he died........ ok I'll shut up now....  ::) ::)

..........yes as JFK died in Dallas Hospital, but in both cases the actual act of assisination took place in the Ford Theatre, Washington, and outside the Depository in Dallas respectively. :y :y :y

Don't know how true it is, but it is interesting nonetheless.

Quite right, Albitz.  :y

Scary really. I've always said that the person we need as a PM is someone who needs to be dragged into No10 kicking and screaming "But I don't want to be PM!". "Yes", say the press-gang, "But you're the best person for the job, whether you like it or not!"

These days, especially, the advent of career politicians means that we end up being governed by people whose whose driving ambition is to govern. Would you really vote for someone who said "My sole interest is to control you"?

No, I thought not.  ;) ;D  ;D
