Transfer box or gearbox......they are weak link and what always fails hence command big bucks and hard to find!

Thats also how I used to get cheap V8 engines.....out of Range Rovers that have been taken off road (they cant take it!) and blown the transmissions!

Apparently fact it will reverse means it isn't the transfer box.  Could be a very interesting journey back however lolol.

I was joking Kate lol.  Of course we have alternatives.

Gearboxes are quite readily available. I got a complete Gbox and transfer box for mine, 4 speed zf, for £50! Both good and from a low mileage vehicle. Trouble is they're a heavy old lump and a bit of a bugger to fit!

There will be two strong men fitting it hopefully so will just give Jue a good feed before he/we leave (I'm not one of the men, honest)

Do seem to be some available on fleabay.., just a question now of whether we manage to get one by Sunday (when the other man is available).  Then will hear if it really does only to 10mpg on gas lol.  If so, its not gonna be here for long lolol.

Depends what system but sounds about right! I did manage to get 19mpg out of mine after some very careful cruising, mostly downhill, with a warm engine on a run to Brighton!

TBH the Miggy costs the same to run on petrol as the Rangie did on LPG... Now I'm laughing because it's cheaper to run than most small cars ::) ::) :D :D

So, who wants a couple of quid on the V8 suffering from the standard stretched chain, worn cam, followers and leaking headgaskets.....

And of course... It'll have the normal, bowed tailgate :P ::)

Hmm. Depends how many miles it's done...

Only joking! Of course it will! ;)

I wonder if it'll have a Viscous fan that makes the pyestock wind tunnels look feeble too like JamesV6CDXs one did?

Don't know about anyone else, but I've always found biggish vans the best tow vehicles.
Lwb diesel Trannies are good and pretty stable, and decent on fuel, and if you get one with the banana engine or a turbo, they'll pull anything.
Also had an LDV Sherpa 350  2.0 petrol.  Sounds rubbish , but it would do 70 with a trailer with 2 Minis on it, and it used to do about 16mpg, which wasn't too bad.
Got an old 2.5 turbo diesel Talbot Express camper at the moment, tows the minis no problem and does about 20-25mpg.

The other advantage of a van is you can put a bed/cooker in so no problem if you break down !!!

i help out marshalling now and again for the landrover lads and i have seen loads of rangerovers die! they particually dont like going from D To R very quickly !

depends on condition for value but they really rot rather badly has it got a rust free rear tailgate? if so pm me ;)

a Twin wheel Transit can tow preety much anything! so id agree on the van thing!

Now the scrap boom is over Scraps now £30 a ton Horray! beavertail recovery trucks are starting to sell for reasonable money Twin wheel beavertail Mk3 transit sold for £450 last night at the auction good value really

Obviously not seen the r rover yet so that's the ultimate proof but been told it was the previous owners pride and joy.., no rust on chassis or anywhere else important (not used for off roading ever apparently the guy used to hire one if there was ever a risk of that lol), just a couple of minor paint bubbles on the body.

But will let u know when we have a gear box and can go collect.  Think u might lose that pound tho Mark he he!
