We are always going on about how bad the UK is, but this story from Australia shows how other countries can be pretty awful too.
It really makes me cross. >:(

I only skimmed the article but i wonder how much leverage 20,000 votes will have come election time

That is appalling, almost unbelievable in this day and age from such a country. This country does not discriminate against immigrants with disabilities..... :)

i have family in oz and to cut a long story short my auntie wanted to go and stay with my uncle and rest of the family. the only problem is my auntie has a number of medical problems, so the authorities limited the time she could stay in New South Wales in case she became ill during her stay .

So that means if it was your or I, in aus that we could not relocate cos we might cost the local health service.......... ::) ::) ::)

here's the thing Mike .My uncle moved over their not that long after having a heart attack. (although he did have to marry an Aussie woman who at the time was over here training to be a nurse. No nursing jobs in aus at the time apparently)

First time I was hospital bound (work-wise), in the early 80's, there were loads of aussies over for nurse training because the standard was much higher than in Oz. A british trained nurse could work anywhere in the world -- probably all different now tho - last time I worked in the same hospital a few years back they were "importing" staff from the Phillipines!

That's just sums it up. I wonder how much tax the doctor pays, i bet it very much outways what it cost for his son & going by what is said that wont be much at all.
All i can say is that it's Australia's loss & that's big time, i just hope they reconsider

TBH if I were him I would tell the ozzies to stick tasmania where it hurts !!!!

It was an automatic rejection, but there is an established procedure to appeal all the way up to the minister in charge. It sounds more like bad communication than a fundamental problem.
