I recently got some new number plates made up and opted to have a scotland flag put on the side (As you do).
I have just found out I could be fined for this. I got pulled over for a quick chat by the local police last night while I was driving home rather late and had my car checked over. I was told that everything was in order. So whats the crack?

I bet this has something to do with it offending some people.
No offence meant or anything, but this country is pathetic!
Sooner Gordon Brown p!sses off the better. How I got onto Gordon Brown from number plates I don't know. Well mate if anyone says anything just tell them you want the money as you had to pay for your current plates and don't intend on paying again.
-
yup, strigent rules now.
Hopefully should stop the chavs who have gay fonts, or the pillocks who readjust all spacing to make it say their silly name
-
I guess the rules make ANPR work better
-
The plates were made at the MOT station I take my car to so at least the font is correct. Stupid rules

The above article is from 2001, but i recently read somewhere that the law is to be changed to allow display of country flags instead of the crap EU laurels
-
right in that case they are coming off!!! thanks TB :y
-
Well i think if you check in the places that make the plates (halfords/online ect) they state that you can have either the euro stars, st george, scotland flag or welsh flag with either GB, ENG, SCO or CMY. My mum's ford has eu stars with ENG and thats from the factory. Although TBH i doubt you'll get pulled for it, maybe charged if you get pulled and argue with cops or something. On my old corsa i had St george's flag with ENG on both front and back, used to get pulled often and never once were my plates mentioned.

Actually you should NOT have failed the test for the postcode reason .. :(
The rule bringing in a load of the number plate rules was suspended only months after it was published ... and AFAIK has not been re-introduced ...
Introduced :
http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosacorp/newsandevents/pressreleases/2007pressreleases/20-09-07changestotherequirementsforregistrationplatechecksatmottest.htm
http://www.dvla.gov.uk/media/pdf/leaflets/v796.pdf
Withdrawn :
http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosacorp/repository/Special%20Notice%2010-07.pdf
NOTE : I'm not saying these number plates are LEGAL . they are NOT, they still breach the law .. it's just you can't fail an MOT with them, Mr Plod can still "do" you for them however ....
HTH

The plates on the Beastie & Kates 2.5 are illegal. The 3d font & honeycomb are fine but the VXV6 To the left of the plate & the omegaowners.com & big black beastie @ the bottom of each given plate are illegal. Those of you who know where i live (on a t junction) will know my cars are in full view of the local law but i've never been bothered at home or elsewhere as the characters are'nt messed with so speed/tax cameras can read them. ::)

Right at the end .....
ReflectivityThe British Standard also requires that a number plate must be marked with the followinginformation: -
l The British Standard Number (currently BS AU 145d)
l The name, trade mark, or other means of identification of the manufacturer or componentsupplier. (The company who actually make the number plate.)
l The name and postcode of the supplying outlet. (The 'supplying outlet' is taken to mean acompany whose business consists wholly or partly of selling number plates.)
l A non-reflective border and the Euro-symbol with the national identification letters areoptional additions.
l There shall be no other markings or material contained on the number plate.

thats not mandatory
It is, if travelling in Europe.
According to the EU, the usual suspects England, Scotland, Wales and NI are not acceptable on registration plates, but GB and the EU stars are, hence the source of the article, apparently....
Personally, it would have had to have been a VERY quiet day when out to play to even contemplate thinking about almost doing something resembling nicking someone for having ENG/SCO/CYM/NI on the plate instead of GB and the EU stars.....

Country flag is OK

Yes, in the last paragraph where it talks about the British Standard.
However, the example pictured plate does not have the required info on it... ;D
-
my plates have no post code just say BT Fleet Oberton Rd Exeter on them and have bt's old trumpet logo on em with the BSAU thing at the sides
cheers for the advice entwood will remember that next time for mot time :y
-
sure there was something on the news last week about 'local' flags and countrys being made legal within a few weeks.
-
when driving in europe they will only accept the gb, and not constituent countries, also, they dont recognise/accept the english flag. Only the union jack!
-
Same applies when driving in wales with a union jack! especially in the Valleys! things can get a little heated!
-
Best not to have any flags IMHO.
.. and they'll put that "Euro" flag on my car over my dead body. >:(

I agree completely! We're not part of Europe anyway, there's a strip of water between us!
-
I consider my plates to be illegal, no postcode, no makers name, and a Vauxhall badge.http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1225393439
I keep the old plates in the car just incase the plod stop me and for MOT time if they say are not passable.

Mine are technically illegal (but only if they were made after a certain date) :y
What is your postcode TB? If I put that on as the server location I suppose that would legalise them wouldn't it? ;D
