it must be rather hard being an employer, trying to find someone who can actually do the job, rather than having to employ someone on grounds of colour, disability, race, religion, age and so on

Maybe they should be looking closely at employment contracts -- in this case specifically stating, "In the course of your employment you WILL be handling pork based products and acceptance of the post confirms your agreement to do so".
How about --- I joined the Fire Service but my skin reacts badly to temperatures over 100 degrees C, therefore it is unfair to ask me to actually go within 100 yards of a fire ????????

Makes you wonder what would have happened if the Met had refused him the job in the first place, based on the fact that he cant touch certain foods.......
Would he have played the Racist or Religious card......
What a load of b*****ks
The whole Muslim thing is being used as an excuse for too many things these days, and like posted earlier, come the revolution....
Makes me really annoyed.

Now hang on chaps, this person has his rights, and should be allowed to express them.
However, so should all the Bobbies who are being denied their essential food (bacon sarnies :y ). Perhaps all members of the force should sue this catering person for lack of proper food supplies, each going for about £500 compensation. Times say 3000 Bobbies thats about £1500000 the catering manager should have to pay in compensation.
As said by Holly Count, all employment contracts shold enclude a clause that the applicant must be able to do the job in all foreseeable circumstances. If he/she subsequentially fails to do so, the employer should be able to sue him for failure to perform.
