Title: Possible Omega substitute?
Post by: kjon51 on 24 December 2006, 10:01:55
Have you driven one of these beasties? I admit they're a bit on the 'can't afford list' still, but not as bad as the Bentley, & they've got to get cheap enough soon! W12 6 litres though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-?

Allegedly the finest engineered car in the world.

Here is the Top Gear review. :)

Would I have one?

Oh yes... for the right price!

I had a look at these. There were a couple in that garage less than a year old for around £22k, Hows that for massive depreciation!! ::)

They are also seriously expensive to run, maintain and tax!  A limo with a Volkswagon badge, can't see it myself.  Oh and they are apparently the second worse polluting car in a list I saw recently!

I would guess they will sell more of the W12 in the Audi A8/ A8L

8 year old S8s are now £6-8k so in about 10 years W12s will be affordable, although the way petrol prices are doubt if anyone will be able to fill one up!!

There's no doubt these are excellent - the Bentley GT is based on the same floorpan and running gear after all - but don't they look a little too like a passat? Then again, perhaps thats a good thing: not everybody wants to look like a pimp I suppose!

Perhaps a more practical car would actually be a passat?? They did a 4 litre W8 version, though they're quite rare. A proper street-sleeper like that might be fun!

Probably really boring to drive though, with huge weight and a sludge-o-matic gearbox. Looks very nice and luxurious, but not my kind of car at all.

I know two people who have them.....(company directors) and they seem to live upto the current VW name.....as they are mega unreliable!
