Title: Problem with my celica
Post by: JiMbOb789 on 10 November 2008, 00:37:33
Hey, got a problem with my car, heres the problem.

Firstly it misfires, it smells like its running rich and lacks in power.(maily when it straining)

Any ideas?

(By the way, its a 5th gen celica gtr-4ws 2.0 twin cam)

From what i gather, it just needs a tune up, what do you think?
Could it be anything serious.

By the way, something in the top left corner of the engine bay (top right of the pic, pic is taken sideways) is melting, i think its the sealant, what is it, heres a pic

if that melting pipe is your servo vacuum pipe that is most likely the cause of your missfire

and also what does it do?
Could it be blocked inside full of sealant or could air be escaping?
Could i fix it without buying a new one?

do you know if its def the servo pipe ? if it is there is a known fault with the master cylinder seals which erode and allow brake fluid into the servo and sucked into the inlet which destroys the pipe from the inside out giving the appearance of melting . have you had to top up brake fluid lately and is the brake pedal harder than usual ?

I dont know to be honest, i accidently locked the celica in the garage and waiting for the lock smith but braking feels fine, i havent had the car long so i dont know it the brake fluid has been topped up, as far as i know it hasnt had a service in a long time but what is the worst thing that could of happned.
Could it be an expensive fix?

firstly establish that it is the servo pipe , it should connect the circular chamber behind the brake fluid resevoir and the inlet manifold . its function is to create a vacuum in the chamber to provide brake assistance. secondly with the engine running listen or feel around the pipe for hissing which would indicate an air leak . if so then this is allowing un-metered air into the induction system which would give running problems . it should be a fairly simple fix any scrapyard should have one . just replace the pipe for now and see how the brake fluid level is over a period of time .

I shall do that, funny you should say that because there is a hissing but couldnt find where it was coming from but i shall check.
We have plenty of scrap yards near by so i shall try that.
Thanks for all your help and i will keep this updated :y
