Title: Is OOF now faster
Post by: TheBoy on 09 November 2008, 16:55:29
After some Linux optimisations, and a new software drop during todays 3hr maintenence window, is OOF a bit quicker?

Slightly faster, loads up quicker when posting (no delays)

although I am now running through a Proxy, so alot of the images and such are cached locally now, its just the text which is called.

I have noticed on the main page for each section, the "all" button has disappeared off any multi-page threads

Thanks TB  :y

P.S. Had to put my car back in the Drives section of my profile.

P.P.S. Text is back in black  :) :) :) Cheers TB

The only thing I've ever thought to be slow (horribly so) compared to other forums is the search function.  This remains horribly slow ::)

Can't complain about things like that though - this is a great forum and thanks for all the work you guys put in!

The search is awful, though should be a little better now.  Until one of 2 things happen, it will always be an issue (we buy a massively faster disk system, or the developers go to a proper database system)

SMF (even with SQL backend) still has the 25 post search limit like YaBB...

MySQL does the job just fine (in my opinion) again, thats free too!

Oracle is nasty and expensive, MSSQL works, but when I was using it for 12months in a working environment, it just wasn't flexible enough (and also a complete arse to manage)

In line with the rest of Linux stuff, it will likely by MySQL.  Admittedly, MySQL ain't great, but will be adequate in this case I reckon.  Our shop runs off MySQL.

Hi Jaime,

I've just noticed that I had to put mine back too. There are a great many members who now don't have any "Drives" details showing.

Hope I'm not seen as being picky on this one ::)

The script that did the import completed without error, and the members I randomly checked all had it in  :-/

Wonder if there is a sequence of events that causes it to disappear

Hmmm, just looked on members list, about half don't have Drives data against them. Which is in line with what I would expect to be honest  :-/

I see the layout of where we live on the left has altered.  and I lost the 0 on the 3.0 Elite in the process.

Cant decide if if any quicker as yet, the icon on the post reply screen seem a tad slower.

Will do a reboot in a while and carry on browsing the forum.

Excellent work as allways, was having a kip through the outage so I didnt miss a thing.   :y :y

well tbh i thought the forum was quicker since friday.  :P and have noticed little improvement since then i think. However i mostly use me phone and not the lap top so probably doesnt count, the post reply page used to be slow to load the smileys etc. I guessed this was to do with your phone line issue and or Lynux issue but it was on biggie.
Not anymore.
Probably my Alzheimers again on the timeing though. Thankyou Jamie. Top service as usual.

Certainly from my point of view is posting is quicker, looking at members profiles is massively quicker, searches slightly quicker (but still dog slow).

Yes mine had brackets. I see someone above lost the ".0" from their 3.0, so it looks like a special character or character set mismatch issue.

Looks much better.  At the end of last wek I would have got faster results if I sent replies in by Royal Mail  :D

The brackets may have thrown my quick and dirty perl script for migrating certain info over
