Yesterday an elderly man reversed straight into the back of my parked car while me and my 1 yr old daughter was in the car,so i got out and first thing i asked was if he was ok!!he replys yes and asks if there was any damage to which i reply there does'nt seem to be,so then i ask for his details and the old man replys you don't need them if there is no damage >:( >:(
As i am 6"2 and 20stone and extremely angry i don't scream or shout i just get into my car and pull up behind him and take a photo of his reg and drive down to the police station and report it!!
Phone the insurance today and tell them and i have now got to get my car checked over tommorrow ::)so i was wondering if anyone has an idea what they will say?? There doesn't appear to be any dents just a couple of scratches and the chrome strip on the back bumper is all bent etc.... and the exhaust blows a bit now and gets caught on the speed bumps in my street :-/ :-/
-
Quite probably :(
-
More than likely, but you can always buy it back off the insurance and repair it using secondhand parts :y
-
The average price for an omega these days is £37.50. It doesn't take much for the insurance company to write them off.

Sorry Craig but I don't fully understand why you reported it to your insurance company if there was no real damage apart from superficial trim issues, and your excess will cover that anyway? :-? :-?
Also why did you tell the chap that there was no damage, when obviously there was, even if just slightly? :-? :-?
Why not just track him down and politely ask for some cash to do the minor repairs. 8-) 8-) :y
-
Sorry to hear that the grey menace strikes again !!
Get a couple of quotes and then get a valuation from Parkers - i think they tend to write the car off if the repairs get near 2 thirds of the value of the car.
But as someone has already said try and come to an arrangement with the old guy if you can track him down.

thats not the car the new wheels are for i hope :-X
-
i had a similar experiance with a dappy school run mum! went into the back of the mig at about 5mph no damage to myn atall though!
hers well it was a BMW Mini and there was blue liquid pouring all over the ground with steam so i laughed and got back in and drove off!
hopefully her radiator broke i hope it did anyway! never bothered with insurance!

As far as i know there is no damage, just scratches and trim damage :( but i'm not a specialist in that department so there could be more :-/ and the end of the day i've got two toddlers to drive around so i'd rather be in a safe car than sorry ;)
And checking for damage was the last thing on my mind at the time,my main concern was my 1yr old daughter who was in the back at impact ;)
And the exhaust is rattling like hell now and gets caught on the speed bumps in my street whereas it wasn't before >:(

:-X :-X :-X ;D ;D ;D Ah well whatever happens i'll be driving an omega at the end of the day so alloys will still be used :y :y

Firstly, glad your littlun is ok, but i think the moral of the story is, Always get all other parties ins. details. I would'nt have accepted his answer of no need for them.
If i were you i'd leave ins. now as a quote for a new bumper, trim, painting & a new exhaust @ stealer prices could well result in an financial ins. write off & cat D on the cars history which is needless so i'd fix it in house. Plenty of folk on here breaking Migs, can spray etc.
Life's a little unfair at times. ::) :y

As i have never been in an accident before can someone tell me what this email means please :-[ Does it mean that they expect me to pay £295 on the spot if the garage agrees to do the repairs even though i wasn't at fault???
The repairs to your car have been arranged at xzxzxzxz
An engineer has been instructed to inspect your car and assuming that repairs are covered under your policy, he will authorise the garage to proceed with the repairs.
An excess of £695 (Compulsory - £295, Voluntary - £400) should be paid to the garage.
Kindly advise us if you are VAT registered, because if you are, this would have to be paid to the garage.

From quickly reading the email ( I like the part about not disclosing the contents to anyone else so you post it on an open forum ;D :y) it looks as if they are making the claim against your insurance not the old farts.

It means that you must pay £695 to get your own car repaired. If you were not at fault then YOU require to clain back your uninsured losses - excess and any reasonable hire car costs etc whilst being repaired - direct from the offending driver. If you pay into DAS or some other legal scheme, thats what they do on your behalf.
I have previously sent my own version of a 'lawyers letter' to the offending driver, naming them as responsible and requiring them to forthwith part with my out of pocket monies.....

As Welung says, this is an open forum. Not that I think that anyone here would use the information against you eg claim reference number, but it is open and others might. I'd ***** some/all of the number :y :y :y

from what i can see from craigs avatar his miggy is pre facelift/mini facelift and as such his excess is probably near the cars value, i for one would cancel the claim ,
worst case scenario and they write it off , insurance goes up and possibly £200ish payout after they have taken the excess away from what they pay out
my brother in law had a similar experience with his vectra and got paid out £187

I have given my insurance his reg number model etc....as i took a photo of his car!! and they have confirmed that he is insured but yet they still expect me to pay out on the spot, out of my own pocket for an accident that was his fault?? And to make things worse i only paid £550 for the car in June >:( >:(

In a word, yes. Thats what the contract of insurance you have says and you agreed to. £295 compulsory excess and an additional £400 that you volunteered to carry, in order to reduce your annual premium.
As said, I would fire off a letter of blame to the other driver, recorded so its signed for, requiring him to reimburse your total excess immediately and that a further claim for car hire costs etc will be forthcoming in due passage of time. I would also leave it open that your child may or may not suffer from some future malady as a result of this impact. (God forbid that such a thing happens, obviously.... :-[)
Or as said by others, cancel the claim (if possible to do, now its been started) and get repair monies from the old lad instead....

Sounds like its a total write off :y.............dismantle the car and sell it off on e-bay, dispose of the evidence :y
