The government state that a male should drink no more than 21 units per week, or 4 units per day, with at least two days when he consumes nothing at all.
That works out at around a pint and a half or beer / lager a day being your limit, with a requirement to have nothing at all for two nights of the week.
What do you think of this recommended limit? Discuss :y

Already established that the people who set these limits based them on pure guesswork.
200 years ago, we all lived on (weak) beer. Darwin weeded out the water drinkers with cholera and typhoid.
I think it's rubbish and another stick for the media and government to beat us with.

It just occured to me, after reading this article, that I am sure I do drink quite a bit more than this. Just wanted to check I'm not a lone alcoholic ;D

This has been around for a long time now ::)
I enjoy the odd tipple in the evening, most evenings, during recent medical / blood tests my GP said there was no evidence of over drinking, carry on............ ;D ;D ;D :y :y :y

Are we allowed to see the stats on what they drink in their cheap(free?) bars in the Houses of Parliament? Bet they hit the limit regularly, especially at the moment

dont know actually .. I learned mine with bad experiences..
now when I feel happy its enough.. :)
I never drink with empty stomach..
always drink slowly..
And mostly consume strong distilled drinks..

I drink nowhere near this amount personally, but not out of self-righteousness, just disinterest.
I'd be worried about myself if I drank every day (even 5 days a week). I probably drink once a month or so and am lucky if I can go beyond 3 pints.
I know I'm a sissy.

That recommended amount was literally a number pulled out from a polititians bottom!

i dont think this bollo**s is meant for the people that drink in moderation... i think it's aimed more at the people that go out get plastered and have to have their stomach pumped... on more than one occasion!

i drink what i feel comfortable with, and i will admit that recently i have chosen to cut down.....
That said i will generally have a few pints during the week with an evening meal and i always go out with a friend and have a couple of Jars on Friday, the weekend i will have a few dumpy bottles over the course of the weekend.
I don't get drunk, i enjoy my drink, i NEVER drive and i will not have someone tell me that i drink too much....
as Kevin said if i needed advice i would speak to a Doctor, not the nanny state

..and of course, if you have your stomach pumped, or it "self-pumps" of its' own volition and creates a "pavement pizza", does it really matter what you drank - or are they going to start measuring it on the way out too? :D ;)

One litre - 2 500ml cans of larger - 2 units, so I guess OK?
That's presuming it's beer, and not a litre of whisky ;D ;D

How much is too much . . .easy
Enough is when you can remember what you are doing and are able to stop yourself doing it.
Too much is not being able to remember or stop yourself from doing it.
Either way the unit scale I would imagine varied from person to person.
Mike F for example could manage 2 units a night and be safe so his limit is 14 units a week, he thinks he actully manages his 21 units a week OK but rumour has it his wife starts to water it down on the 2nd each nightcoz he cant take it. ::) ::)

by the way the govt here have a easier solution..closes the alcohol selling shops one by one..and dont give new licenses >:( >:(
and takes very high taxes over alcohol >:( >:( >:(

I easily do my weekly "limit" on a Friday or Saturday or both! ::)
If we took notice of all these so called "experts" with their guide lines on what you should eat and drink, how much you should eat and drink and smoking issues, what a miserable bl00dy life it would be. :(
I think I'd rather have a slightly shorter but happy life rather then a miserable longer life. ;)

They tax the crap out of it in scandinavia to....apparantly they tend to hit the botle hard with the long dark nights and lack of daylight when winter sets in!

I remember my fist business trip to Finland. After being shocked at the number of people having Vodka for breakfast on my 7:20 flight to Helsinki I went to the customer, finished late just crashed out in my Hotel room. Next morning, I couldn't open the door of my room. Eventually discovered a bloke's head next to the door in the corridor outside and prodded it a few times until he rolled over and I could open the door.
There was a key from a completely different hotel jammed in the lock and the bloke was out cold!
Put him in the recovery position and went down to reception to explain the situation "Ahh, it was Werdnesday night last night <roll eyes>" was the only explanation offered.
Anyway, he had gone by the time I returned that evening.
It seems if they make the investment necessary to imbibe over there, they damn well make sure they do the job properly. ;D
