Title: Bast#rd bend and run driver
Post by: The Barge Captain on 17 November 2008, 13:48:10
Just had a weekend in Moffat in Scotland.. Flew to Glasgow, picked up a hire car, drive down to Moffat and parked in the town square car park.  Returned to the car 36 hours later and some furkin winker has driven into the rear bumper and creased it, then buggered off  >:(

Now I'm probably looking at a £600 insurance excess. (didn't take the waiver)

Droped the car back to the returns place, left the key and got on my flight before the car was checked over.

Not happy.
Bloody expensive weekend away this could turn out to be.
Haven't dared tell SWMBO yet :-X

Have hired a few cars in my time, have they got your credit card details ? if so they can bill your card direct. if not deny everything, say it was in perfect condition when you dropped off the keys, and you could not find anyone to check the car over when you returned it.

I despise car hire companies. I allways pay by cash and let them take a photocopy of my credit card.

At the end of the day they should insure the cars properly.

Mike

P.S try cancelling the credit card with immediate effect.

This is indeed a problem with these drop-the-keys returns... this is why I usually prefer to take the time and get a real person to take back the car and sort out the paperwork on the spot.

I know.  Perfect when I took it out, damaged by the time I returned it.  Bet i've no chance of getting away with saying they must have damaged it after i returned it.

I suppose it might be worth ringing the local police station and reporting it, and asking about CCTV.

Did you sign a check/inspection sheet when you took the car?
If not they can ram it. 8-)
