Hi Im not mechnanicaly minded, I own a year 2000 2.5 TD CD Manual with a BMW engine in it. Will it have a Cambelt Or Camchain??

LOL, I'm gutted my 2.5TD has a chain, much rather it was a belt. Chains have too many disadvanatges, and on this particular lump, a real bitch to change.

Yes, but at least chains usually rattle before they snap... so you get some head-up that something is not quit right. Belts go in a second... I know that with the Omegas its the tensioner that goes (mine went when the car was exactly 4 years and one month old), but I fubared a 1.8 Ford Diesel engine when working for a company whose owner did not believe in servicing. The belt snapped when I started the engine and it was wrecked beyond repair. The point is that the car ran fine just prior to that, not a clue that something was about to give....

Apparently when the Jaguar V12 was being designed in the '60's Walter Hassan was considering a belt drive for the cams, but decided against it because you can only drive off one side of a belt, but both sides of a chain. Boy am I glad he needed to drive the distributor jack shaft with the chain! ;D

Ford 1.8 denzils were fubared from the day they were new, Sherpa vans were quieter. :(

speaking as someone who owns a Ford 1.8 diesel,I would like to say that they are a perfectly good engine.
For a cement mixer. :y ;D

as a ford mechanic , the biggest issue with the timing belts is the rocker cover gaskets . they leak into the timing casing and cause the rubber in the belt to breakdown , i've even known people to replace the camshaft valves and belt , then a week later BANG the pump belt goes taking the timing belt with it .ha ha tight fisted to$$ers ;D
