Title: Heads-up for AVG anti-virus users
Post by: Nickbat on 12 November 2008, 21:41:22
If, like me, you use AVG, you should be aware of this, although I think the latest definitions file has been corrected.

Reading through the comments on that story, I came across a post which claims that the problem only affects users of the Dutch, French, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish language versions of Windows XP.

So, it looks like it is not a big problem for us. :y

Incidentally, I know AVG uses up quite a lot of memory and I see from the comments section that quite a few peeps recommend "Avast!", another free anti-virus program. Anyone know anything about it?

Not as much as ad-aware, that's always top of my virtual memory list.

Have used both AVG & Avast without probs - now using Avast - seems to have lower overhead and just sits quietly in background until needed.  Updates quickly without drama.

Less impact on PC speed than the "big" boys - Norton & McAfee!!
