An oven that used to take 20 mins to heat up, now takes 30-40 minutes.
What do you think is wrong?
I'm thinking replace the element, only £20.

if fan assisted, could be fan as well.
-
It is fan assisted, fan is certainly working....

I think there is a thermostat somewhere, but sounds more likely element, esp if light goes out at right temp.
-
if my oven packs up then i'll just wrap food in tin foil and place on tractors exhaust manifold ;D ;D ;D

According to the light, it does maintain its temp,
Maybe I should do some thermometer checks as well.

::) I expect `my ideas of what might be wrong would be considered to be half-baked! ;D

What? An oven should take, like, 2-3 minutes to get to working temp. Mine does.

2-3 minutes :-? do you have a nuclear reactor inside . it takes 4 minutes for a standard electric element to achieve core temperature , a further 6 minutes for the air inside to reach the same temp and a further 6-8 minutes for the walls to reach the same temp depending on insulation , what you are aiming for is thermal equilibrium , which means that the convection current temperature within the oven cavity is the same at the top as it is at the bottom then click goes the thermostat which is usually a bi-metalic pressure switch .

Wow! Well I've just tried it (I'm anal like that) and the light goes out after 6 mins.

Mine takes about 5-6 mins to heat up.....
These elements are sometimes a dual winding......what is the make and model?
-
We've notice our top oven is taking ages to heat up lately. I guess I should look at it, but its easier to preheat on grill, then flick oven on ::)
-
Mine takes ages to heat up too.....and its a fan oven.....so do what i do.....turn oven on and take Holly for a walk.....when u get back oven is upto temp ;D ;D ::)
Might be a bit of distance tho to come and walk Holly ;D ::)

Its quicker to go for a takeout ;)

Have you been burning stuff too? We had a similar problem which co-incided with the standard of Mrs. KWs cooking not being up to its' usual exemplary level. :'(
Turned out the nasty capillary thermostat had got a bit lazy. Set the oven to 200 C and it was actually reaching almost 300. :o New thermostat in the oven and it was fine.. Howver I think the replacement has packed up now too. >:(
Quite often there'll be more than one element doing the heating, depending on the mode selected, so could be you've had a single element fail. If it's slow on "fan assisted" mode can you try it in "conventional" mode?
I got a nice multimeter from Maplin with a thermocouple which is ideal for oven diagnostics. 8-)
